wildlife photographs

I spent the afternoon yesterday with a wildlife photographer who just blew me away. I'm not sure whether this is allowed here, but I would like to do some shameless shilling for this guy. Norman is part native Indian and spent a good part of his life studying native mythology and such. He claims to be able to communicate with his subjects in some elemental way. He get's very close to these animals and has an intimacy with them in his pictures that is quite unlike anything I have ever seen before.

His website can be found at www.normanrich.com —and you have to click on the various thumbnails to get into the galleries. All of his prints can be ordered and the details are on the site. The quality of these things is astonishing. Norman is a complete animal nut, but not much of a businessman, so I am trying to connect him with a few potential buyers.

Some sample pictures:

Wow...

Impressive pics...Every time I see art like this I realize that I suck so much as a photographer.

Here's my feeble attempt. Took this one in Zion Nat. Park a few years ago. I couldn't get him to coil up for me, but didn't try too hard.

Nice pics. Don't think I'd want to be that close to a grizzly myself though.
I took this just the other day in my own backyard.

Beautiful photos, Dottore.

Three days ago in my backyard, Cooper hawk has a morning dove snared under our orange tree. He was stomping and trying to smother it.

Those are fabulous pictures. We'll be in Yellowstone this June (roadtrip w/ another couple) so I hope to get a few good wildlife pictures (just hope no paw prints on the 930).

Fishing with bears.

No zoom. Too close for comfort. I'm in the river trying to wade past them quietly.

Watching me.

Beautiful bear. He came splashing into the river about 20 feet from me. I was just downstream from the rock. I moved downstream to snap the photo. He just ignored me and went about his business catching fish.

For more cool wildlife photography, check out Spain's Maria Cano. Not all that well known, but she definitely has an eye.

This is the most dangerous bear photo I have seen in some years. You are lucky to be alive.

That is almost certainly a female with her cubs, not a "he."

The solo bear in the river is a male. He was chased into the river by a female with cubs. The other pictures are females with cubs.

Late fall before hibernation is pretty safe. The bears are fat and lazy. I try to make a bit of noise so I don't surprise them, but I guess you're always taking a chance fishing so close to bears. Problem is the bears hang out in the same place as the big fish!
