I visited Malmo several decades ago....loved it. But now ???

"A few years ago, the left-wing London Guardian newspaper called Sweden the most successful society the world has ever known. But Sweden today is being rocked by a large influx of Muslim immigrants and the growth of radical Islam.

Malmo has been so accommodating toward immigrant Muslims that a local Muslim politician and imam has even declared, "The best Islamic state is Sweden !"

But Malmo's Jews won’t give the city the same glowing assessment. Jews who dare to walk the streets wearing yarmulkes on their heads risk being beaten up.

When Israel recently played Sweden in a Davis Cup tennis match in Malmo, protesters demonstrated against the Israeli presence in the city, and hundreds attacked police.

Journalist Lars Hedegaard, who is based across a bridge-tunnel from Malmo in Copenhagen, Denmark , told CBN News that pro-Israeli demonstrators in Malmo were met with rocks, bottles and pipe bombs from Palestinians and other Arabs.

Right-wing Swedish Democrats, who support limits on immigration, have been stigmatized by the left-wing Swedish media as fascist and bigoted.

But there is a growing acceptance that "the Swedish model" - generous welfare benefits combined with liberal immigration policies — is now unsustainable, according to CBN News.

Hedegaard said: “I think the best prediction is that Sweden will have a Muslim majority by 2049, so we know where that country’s going.”

I seem to recall that Markus lives in a town called Vejvystrand, about 60 miles north of Malmo.

From a European perspective, and from a country with similar inmigration issues, I think the above statements are quite exagerated and aimed to swaying public opinion against inmigration, islamic or otherwise.

Noadays, with unemployment growing and massive layoffs in the horizon, it is quite popular to put the blame on the millions of inmigrants who have come to the first world and have become our bartenders, cleaners, etc.

I predict we'll see riots and such in the next 2-3 years...

Thanks for posting this, Mark. Gives you some insight of the "Swedish model". Paco is right, I live about an hour by car north of Malmö.

A certain part of Malmö in particular, called Rosengård (Rosegarden), has been increasingly populated with muslim immigrants. Many of them are stand up, honest people who want nothing but a job and assimilation. Unfortunately there are other groups of hard core dogmatic muslims that propagate for muslim laws. They threaten and beat up people who decline to join them.

The issue that I think most Swedes experience as the most different and frightening is that these groups behave in a manner that Sweden traditionally has not been accustomed to. We have criminals too, but mostly they have shown a certain respect toward institutions like fire department, ambulances and even the police. These muslims don´t. They raise hell to make a point and they do not discriminate between direct enemies and people that are there to help. They start fires and then attack the fire men when they arrive. They beat up people, just to attack ambulance personal and so on.

I do not mind immigrants in general, but this kind of animals should have stayed in the trees in the countries they came from.

Also, the police has no authority. They act according to regulations that used to be enough, but with these muslim cave men they have no effective response. IMO, if the criminal does not respond as told and keep up the offensive behavior, the police should just be in their right to pull out the big gun and incapacitate them. I need to calm down now..

Based on numerous articles i've read, the problems are legion.

HTH does someone minimize a 300% increase in rape as "exaggerated?"
