No, that's why I said to get it while you still can. You have to take a class either in UT or from a UT-certified instructor. How many of those are there in FL? It's expensive to stay a certified instructor if you don't live there. Even my guy in AZ is giving it up and we live right nextdoor. UT will eventually stop issuing non-resident permits. Getting a non-resident permit in NV is a huge PITA, which is why I went with UT. Also, having a UT permit allows me to open carry there, which I like to do on the bike. Most states have requirements as to which other permits they will accept as resident or non-resident permits.

rickster..............i was under the impression reciprocal laws that are in place allow me to ccw anywhere its recognized. sped read the book CCW laws(white cover blue letters) and so far washington/utah/colo/new messiko/texas all recognize azccw. states i have recently traveled.
i hope i didnt get erroneous info from this book. cuz i have carried concealed in all the mentioned states after consulting book prior to trips i have made. my next big journey will be thru utah idaho wyoming montana colorado new messiko back to az. and i will vary my journey as to only states that recognize my rights to carry concealed. sucks having to go to kalif motor spudway next week in fontuckey, kalif unarmed driving a guards red 911. talk about being naked!!!! what am i thinking ????? |
Charles, you are covered in UT with your AZ permit (CCW only, you need a UT permit for open carry), but you are NOT covered in NV. NV's laws are kinda fuzzy on car carry and I did get pulled over while carrying there without incident. You are definitely losing the gun if it's seen in Boulder City, which you have to drive through between Hoover Dam and Las Vegas. On at least one occasion, Jordi and I have had a gun show-and-tell in a restaurant parking lot in Vegas and no one said anything. But do not CCW there unless you get your NV permit (real PITA for non-residents) or UT permit (not too much of a PITA) or are willing to lose the gun and spend the night in the pokey.
|
rickster.............no lose gun, no pokey fer me. since lost wages was part of my territory the only damn thing i go to las vegas(the meadows) for is the mint 400(this weekend-not going) or the hydro boats at lake mead. otherwise you can have that dump. i dont gamble so theres not alot of allure. reno/tahoe now thats another story. tonapah aint ever on my itinarary so we dont have to worry about dat.
fill me in on the utah gig. i'll do it. |
Just go to the CCW section of Arizonashooting.com and you'll find everything you need. Local instructor for UT is shutting down very soon, so get in while you can. He's MCSO and might take you one-on-one for UT cert. No range qualifying necessary.

Further motivation to get off of my ass and get a CCW.

Update (looks like the good guy screwed up):
Robber Fatally Shot in Miami Burger King Holdup A robbery at a Burger King in Miami's Upper East Side neighborhood left one person dead and another seriously injured. BY ROBERT SAMUELS rsamuels@MiamiHerald.com An afternoon shootout at a busy Burger King restaurant in Miami left a potential robber dead and the customer who shot him seriously wounded. The bloody event unfolded about 4 p.m. Tuesday at the restaurant at Northeast 54th Street and Biscayne Boulevard. It was a time, employees said, when it is usually crowded with schoolchildren and people getting out of work early. The robber entered wearing a ski mask. He approached a clerk, showed his gun and demanded money, said Miami police spokesman Jeff Giordano. A customer eyed him and the two started arguing. The customer had a concealed-weapons permit and his gun -- and the two exchanged gunfire. The robber crumpled to the floor and was pronounced dead at the scene. The customer, with several gunshot wounds, was in serious but stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. Officers divided witnesses into several groups outside the restaurant to gather information about the incident. Employees waiting to start their shift called friends and family members on their cellphones to pass the time because they were not allowed through the police tape. ''I just hope all my people are OK inside,'' said Cynthia Thomas, who has worked at the Burger King for five years. ``It is scary.'' Around them, drivers on busy Biscayne Boulevard gawked at the scene. The area is a prime destination for residents in the Upper East Side neighborhood -- featuring Soyka's restaurant, Sushi Siam and Andiamo Pizza. |
And yet another happy-ending story today of a citizen defending themselves:
Pedestrian Fatally Shoots Motorist Who Almost Hit Him, Deputies Say By Andy Reid | South Florida Sun Sentinel 5:38 PM EDT, March 25, 2009 A motorist died after a near-miss car accident with a pedestrian escalated into a fight and shooting, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said. Yeniel Rodriguez, 25, who lived in the 5000 block of Pinebreeze Court, died after being shot during a struggle with Russell Carpenter, 42, who lives in the 900 block of Sumter Road East west of West Palm Beach, according to information released today by the Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera said Carpenter was walking home about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when he was almost hit by a vehicle driven by Rodriguez. That prompted an argument between the two and Rodriguez then chased Carpenter on foot, Barbera said. Carpenter ran to his home and got a gun to defend himself, Barbera said. When Rodriguez tried to enter the home, Carpenter shot him, Barbera said. Rodriguez was pronounced dead by Palm Beach Fire-Rescue. No arrest was made. The results of the investigation will be handed over to the State Attorney's Office, which will determine whether the shooting was self-defense, Barbera said. |
And one for the un-armed sheeple in my home state today:
3rd Man Dies From Shooting at San Diego Bus Depot SAN DIEGO (AP) -- A second transit employee wounded when a co-worker opened fire at a city bus depot has died, authorities said Wednesday. Michael Stevenson, 55, died Tuesday afternoon at University of California, San Diego Medical Center, about 11 hours after the shootings, the medical examiner's office said on its Web site. The other worker, Benjamin Mwangi, died at the scene. The gunman, Lonnie Glasco, was shot and killed by police when he started to point his gun at them, authorities said. Glasco, 47, had finished his shift at the Metropolitan Transit System complex shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday. He walked into a lounge area and shouted "nobody's going to leave," police Capt. Jim Collins said. He headed out to a parking lot and fired several shots. Arriving officers found Mwangi, 37, dead and Glasco holding a handgun. Glasco ignored repeated demands to drop the weapon and used his other hand to make a cell phone call, Lt. Kevin Rooney said. "When the call ended, he started to raise the gun at the officers and they shot him," Rooney said. Employees alerted officers to the second victim, Stevenson, a 55-year-old bus mechanic, who was found critically wounded in an office. Rooney said investigators have an indication of the motive for the shooting, but he declined to elaborate. Officers couldn't hear what he said during the cell phone call, and investigators were trying to figure out whom he called. Glasco was a mechanic on automated bus fare boxes who had worked for MTS for about 30 years, agency spokesman Rob Schupp said. Stevenson had worked for the transit system for 31 years and Mwangi had been a foreman for about four years, Schupp said. |

Do you hear of pizza delivery dudes getting beaten up and robbed from time to time in your area? Recently, a dude here with a concealed weapons permit shot and killed a punk who tried to rob him... 3 guys came out of the woods at him and he tried to run away from them, but one guy kept coming. He pulls out his .45. BLAM. Problem solved.
But Pizza Hut fired him. __________________________________________________ ______________ Pizza man says fear he'd die led to shooting He’s unlikely to be charged for killing teen, has resigned job because of company gun policy By CLIF LeBLANC A pizza deliveryman, who said Monday he has been held up twice before, fired shots that killed a teenager during a holdup because he feared he would die and not see his wife and 5-year-old daughter again. “I believe everyone has the right to defend themselves if their lives are threatened,” Christopher Miller, 43, said in a statement issued through police. Miller, who said he has delivered pizza for about 10 years, has resigned because Pizza Hut bans employees’ carrying weapons, corporate spokesman Chris Fuller said. Miller, who carried the gun in a fanny pack, had a permit to carry a concealed weapon and is unlikely to be charged, authorities said. Paul Sturgill Jr., 17, bled to death under a hickory tree near an Irmo driveway after Miller fired two .45-caliber rounds into his chest Saturday, authorities said. The bullets struck vital organs, but not Sturgill’s heart, Lexington County Coroner Harry Harman said, declining to provide details. Sturgill and three other unarmed men chased Miller when he arrived at a house on the 300 block of Avery Place Lane about 10:25 p.m. Saturday, authorities said. Someone had called in an order to a St. Andrews Road carry-out restaurant for two large, thin-crust pizzas with extra cheese. Miller said he ran about 100 feet while Sturgill beat him before he pulled the trigger. “Mr. Sturgill caught up to me,” Miller said. “He jumped on top of me, punching me several times in the face and head.” Fearing the others would be on him soon, Miller said he “pulled my weapon and fired two shots in self-defense.” He called 911. Miller apologized to Sturgill’s parents for the loss of their son, who had returned to Irmo High School Jan. 5 after being away since the spring of 2005. “I cannot begin to imagine the pain that you are going through, and for that I am deeply sorry,” Miller said. In court on Monday, two of the accused denied they were involved in planning the holdup. “My best friend’s gone,” Jason Todd Beckham, 18, told Lexington County Judge Brian Jeffcoat. “As far as planning and the going through with the robbery, I didn’t have anything to do with it,” the slightly built teenager said as he stood in a orange jail jumpsuit at soldier-like attention. “The only reason I didn’t say anything before is that I was threatened,” Beckham said without explaining. Carlos Renard Dates, 20, denied he was involved in a conspiracy. “It really wasn’t anything like that,” Dates told Jeffcoat, the county’s associate chief magistrate. The suspect said the men where “chillin’” at the Avery Place Lane house, where the owner later said he knew nothing about a pizza delivery. When the commotion broke out between Miller and Sturgill, “I tried to stop it,” Dates said. “There was nothing I could do. The guy had a gun and shot him.” Lynn Sturgill said Sunday her son had never before missed a curfew. Paul Sturgill said, “He made one wrong decision. I guess he paid the ultimate price.” Sturgill played in Irmo High School’s jazz band and had no disciplinary violations, the spokesman said. A memorial service for Sturgill will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Barr-Price Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will begin two hours earlier. Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said the suspects — all former Irmo High students — are “callous.” Metts said he thinks, but has no proof, they ate the $25.13 worth of pizza as Sturgill lay dying beside a driveway across the street from the delivery address. “They took the pizzas and left; ... they were on the ground. We presume they ate the pizzas,” Metts said. Detectives seeking an explanation for the robbery attempt are looking into the possibility that it might have been a gang initiation, Metts said. Lexington County prosecutor Donnie Myers said he does not plan to review whether Miller acted properly. The S.C. Attorney General’s Office said self-defense for deadly force can be, “kind of complicated.” The person under attack must act reasonably throughout the incident, said Jennifer Evans, deputy attorney general for prosecutions. The victim of the attack also must not be doing anything illegal, must try to retreat when possible and must believe he or she is in danger, Evans said. Miller had run between 115 and 118 feet from where he was confronted before he shot Sturgill, sheriff’s spokesman Maj. John Allard said. Myers said he agrees that Miller fired legally. “If you’re bringing a pizza and they’re whipping your butt, you’ve got reason to shoot them,” Myers said. On Monday in the small courtroom adjacent to the county jail, Judge Jeffcoat set identical $250,000 bonds for the three on charges of strong-arm robbery and criminal conspiracy. Both of the charges are felonies and carry penalties of up to 15 years and five years, respectively. Justin Roundtree, 18, was the only one of the three to say nothing about the attack in court. Relatives of Beckham and Dates attended the hearing but declined comment. The three men left Irmo High without graduating, Roundtree and Dates in the fall of 2007, and Beckham in the spring of 2008, Buddy Price, spokesman for Lexington-Richland 5 said. All said Monday they are unemployed. http://www.thestate.com/breaking/story/709391.html __________________________________________________ ______________ No charges for SC pizza man who killed attacker The Associated Press LEXINGTON, S.C. -- Authorities say a South Carolina pizza delivery man will not face charges for shooting a man who attacked him on his route. Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said Thursday that Pizza Hut delivery driver Christopher Steven Miller acted in self-defense when he shot and killed 17-year-old Paul Andrew Sturgill Jr. last week. Authorities say Sturgill and two other men chased Miller when he arrived to deliver pizza, and Miller fired while being beaten by one of them. Authorities say Miller has a concealed weapons permit and had been robbed while delivering pizzas before. Two suspects have been arrested and charged with robbery and criminal conspiracy. http://www.thestate.com/statewire/story/712551.html |
