I had a hell of a time getting the front wheels on as they use lug bolts instead of studs and lug nuts (which are used on the rear). I guess VWAG wanted to cause maximum hassle for owners, so they decided to use two different fastening systems.
But, when you own a cult vehicle, someone has probably come up with parts to fix the idiocy of the engineers. Here is such a product: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1336169321.jpg |

I just noticed this, when I crawled under there to replace the old fuel hoses. The CV joint boots are 11 months old and have about 490 miles on them. I paid a shop to do it, as I am getting lazy in my old age (and it is a VW, not a Porsche). It should have been a tip off I guess when I discovered that the shop did not have a lift, but they said all the right things and I directly asked them about the quality of the CV boots they were going to use, and was assured that would be fine. All 4 boots have the cracking seen at the small end - this is the only one that seems to have completely opened up (fallen apart). Maybe they were made from Chinese drywall??? |
