Official Post pictures of cool engineering
I thought it would be cool to start a thread where we post pictures of things that we feel illustrate cool engineering!
I will start with: The Millau Viaduct ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millau_Viaduct ) ![]() Patek Tourbillon (incredible watch engineering) ![]() Woman (No possible definition can ever be entered!) ![]()

Could you include a description? (at least for those things that are not self-explanatory)

Maybe not the coolest piece of engineering in the world, but some cool things about this project are:
1. Built in Canada, the Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island 2. Largest contract ever signed by the Canadian Gov't - over $1B 3. Didn't cost the tax payers one cent (except for all the guys they hired and paid to watch) 4. My lawyer in Calgary drew up the contract and handled the negotiations 5. I know the guy that built it; he's an amazing engineer with a business mind 6. I've yet to see it myself, but I will one day. Cheers, ![]() |

I didn't know this! Who paid for it? Or do you mean it's being paid for by the tolls?

Sarc, only two of those planes were ever built. Some cool stuff to see in person. One crashed and the other resides at WPAFB, OH...part of the Presidential Planes area of the National Museum of the United States Air Force.

The Gubmint bauked at the plan, but after some negotiating it went ahead; there is NO toll to come off the island; only to go on AND the Gubmint left the Ferry service in place; paid for by the tax payers. The project was extremely political, as you can imagine. They tried to do one from Vancouver to the Island, but BC politics was too strong to allow it; instead they chose to spend a Billion Dollars of the tax payers money on some ferry boats that didnt work; they lost the entire purchase in about 2 years; was a real scam. The bridge wouldn't have cost tax payers a penny. >>>> Athabasca Paddle River Dam; Alberta. I worked on the concrete spillway for this dam in 1983; It was at the time, one of Canada's largest earth dams? I think? The spillway is the size of 30 football fields. ![]() Last edited by 911Rob; 03-08-2009 at 07:47 PM.. Reason: Revised the Dam claim = Thanks. |
