Looks like it'd probably cost well over $100k start-to-finish, but I'm guessing.

Those completed ones look crazy good. I'd be way too scared to drive that on a track (or anywhere) for fear of some idiot broadsiding it.

I hunted on the site for an "idea" in price. I couldn't find it.

I would love to get a huge crate with all the pieces, numbered, unpainted and a well written instruction manual.
The ultimate model.

Then- track it immediatly!!

Last I heard it would be around 90 to $100k to build one.
If that's true it would be a bargain.

Finding a real one and the flat 12 to go with it might be a little bit harder.

I'll keep looking, though

Uhmmmmm, have you seen one of these 917 "replicraps" up close? I'm thinking you haven't.
I have, they are as good or better than the real thing except for the engine.
They are not anything like the POS lazer 917 VW kits that came out a zillion years ago.

I tell you what, i'll save up $100k for one of these new 917s with a nice 3.6 or turbo 3.3, you save up a million or two for the real thing and then another $100k to get it running and keep it running, and we'll see who gets to the finish line first and fastest.

These are the real deal. As close to the original as you will ever find. One of these "replicraps" sold at barrett jackson last year for over $175,000

There's one running around with a 962 twin turbo engine, I bet that would be a nice ride.

no they are not the real deal, they are the fake deal

would you pay 20 grand for a fake Rolex?
even if it did keep time better then the real thing?
or if it was made identical?

i don't care how they are made, they can be faster then the 917's for all i care, in the end, they are frauds...

there is a place for good reproductions like that 917
or a beck or the modern lotus 7 repros
esp as the rare and valueable originals
are out of most peoples price range

these are not the same as a vw rebody
btw the toad and the manx are now collectables
but they are originals not copys

the problem is in fakes and one part restorerations
as a lot of cars can and are being made
from a bit of an old one and all claim the same # and history

I see no need to dis the valid reproductions

If these reproductions are frauds, what about all the RS clones running around?
Are you ready to tell Jack Olsen that his BBII is a fraud because it isn't an original RSR?
What about the guys who put a duck tail or carrera script on their 911? Are the back dated cars frauds?
I guess all the Ruff cars are frauds too because they aren't real 911s.

And as far as buying a real or reproduction rolex, I'll pick neither. My parents didn't raise fools and spending that kind of money on a watch is foolish IMO.

made in the Stuttgart, started off as a 911 chassis without a serial number... just like the RS'es... this 917's have no such history...

Jack O doesn't represent his car as a genuine RSR, he says it's an RSR Clone.. not repro, and like a real RSR, again , it originated in Stuttgart...

though i agree on the spending cash on a watch like that...

I've never heard of a Kraftwerkz 917 owner representing his car as a genuine 917.

I saw the DVD of how they manufacture the Kraftwerkz car. Amazing attention to detail and very high quality. I'd love to drive one.

(I'd love to drive a real one more, of course, but the reproduction would be a blast)

still doesn't make this Kreftwerkz thing as something that at any point started out as a chassis from Stuttgart ...

as far as i'm concerned these fakes should not be allowed on Porsche days , meets, concourse and what not, simply because they ain't...

Well, they'd be welcome at ANY Porsche event I'd ever want to attend. If they weren't, then I don't want anything to do with the event or the snobs attending. (They probably wouldn't allow any black Audi's anywhere near the event either, but that's another issue altogether).

These things are an incredible tribute to the original, and are not being represented as anything other than that.

For a lot of people, this is the closest thing that they will ever come to "living the dream", and I'm sure they evoke much the same emotional response as would driving an original/authentic 917.

Personally, I'd probably enjoy one of these more as I wouldn't feel QUITE as bad if I pranged it off some armco while driving the crap out of it at the track, and it's probably a little safer in that it's new and isn't as fatigued as just about every authentic/original 917 must be by now.

I'd be all over one of these like a fat kid on ice cream.

EDIT: Kudo's for living up to your tag line, by the way.

If I had one of these "fake" 917's I'd even a/x it.

It would have a real Porsche engine and trans in it however.

One person can get their panties in an uproar about this, but I would love to have one, real or not. Looks like a lot of fun.

I'm all for bashing kit cars, but look at the build on this thing. It looks like they really took their time getting it right.
