Ban Assault Muskets

Confederate re-enactor pleads not guilty in shooting

ISLE OF WIGHT

A Confederate re-enactor has pleaded not guilty to reckless handling of a firearm in the accidental shooting of a Union re-enactor during the filming of a Civil War documentary in September.

Joshua Owen Silva of Norfolk appeared in court Wednesday on the misdemeanor charge, which stemmed from the shooting of 72-year-old Thomas Lord Sr. of Suffolk. A June 24 trial date was set, but prosecutors say they hope to reach a plea agreement with Silva before that.

Lord was struck in the right shoulder by a .45-caliber musket ball during the filming of the "Civil War Overland Campaign Web Series Project." He was treated at a local hospital and released.

Muskets don't kill people...re-enactors kill people.

Ban re-enactors.

Clearly more "reasonable restrictions" on these dreadful devices are warranted.

Unless the 72YO (re-entactor) geezer was boinking the (re-enactor) perp's wife/gf/whatever and the (re-enactor) perp was (re-enacting) exacting a little revenge. You gotta watch out for those (re-enactor) scofflaws!

You'd be suprised what people do. I'm a Civil war reenactor (union), and at an event at Fort Pillow I had a similar incident, except the guy left the ramrod in the gun. It bent the ramrod in a horseshoe shape and it flew into the trees just above us. Scary stuff.

My re-enactor buddy say the sargeant or whoever is in charge of the unit has everyone place a cap on their gun and snap it in the grass. He wants to see the grass move or find out why it doesn't.

Is a re-enactor like a re-animator?

Brain implants. A satellite tracks the movements of the gun muzzle and trigger finger and calculates theoretical bullet trajectories. When a "hit" is determined, a signal is sent to a sensor implanted in the re-enactor's brain which then delivers an electrical stimulation to the cerebral cortex, causing them to fall down.

Not like it is rocket science or anything...

I'm thinking a paint cannon might be pretty cool.

And here I thought rations was scarce.

The old dude is lucky to have survived. My father's 50 cal musket is dead on accurate, and it will kill you. It leave a big hole going in, and a bigger one going out.

paint cannons might be doable. not sure how a paint bayonet would work.

a lot of these guys go hunting with the same rifles they use for re enactments. they are still serious weapons.

According to a friend of mine who was at the scene, something a little more was involved in this incident. Maybe not an accident at all, but a continuation of some sort of disagreement(remember, Rebs vs Yankees).
