Traffic ticket question
ok so I got a speeding ticket driving back from California to Phoenix a few weeks ago. I was doing 91mph and he wrote me up for 85. My question is: they're giving me the option to pay extra and go to traffic school. Since I'm an Arizona resident and the ticket was issued in California, does this even apply to me and should I do it? I thought they couldn't put a point on my driving record if I'm from out of state?
Thanks for any info. ![]() |

I'd be shocked if AZ and CA didn't share moving violation info. You could call the respective DMVs and ask.

I would ask for a court date, show the information is false and that you were really going 91 and the officer lied and put down 85?

It's just not humanly possible to go 70mph on the I-10 in the middle of the desert on a Sunday night at midnight with no one on the road. You would just fall asleep which is more dangerous than driving safely at 90 in a modern era car! ![]() |

I don't EVER agree with "it's not possible". Can you keep your car at 25 near a school (15mph when flashing)? Then you can keep it at highway speed limits too.

Let me guess - it happened in Blythe. Probably the same CHiP who nailed me. They told me to just do online traffic school and make it go away. I think the school was $19 and the ticket was $180 or so. Just tax collectors. Only difference between those cops and the highwaymen of old England is you can now pay by credit card a few weeks later. I'd feel no less mugged if someone pulled a gun on me and took the money out of my wallet.

Exactly about 7 miles from Blythe, I was trying to get passed the state so I can haul a$$. But I have no problem getting caught by an actual cop with a radar gun instead of a POS photo radar. I will pay the fine and I think I have to pay an extra $54 to do traffic school. I just wasn't sure if I need t do traffic school since the ticket was issued in Cali and I don't hold a driver's license there. I make that trip every 2 weeks and I can tell you the cops are on a rampage right now in Cali, must be the budget crisis and they have orders to write as many tickets as they can. There are cops hiding everywhere. |

We're not talking about the same thing here apparently, or you didn't get the sarcasm. Yes I can keep it at 25 near a school and at 70 on the highway, but we won't debate if going 70 is any safer than going 90 on a empty stretch of road.

Actually I used to have a really nice VW panel bus back in Cali when I was younger and I think I know what you're talking about! ![]() it was too slow so I ended up building a VW pickup with a 1.8L GTI motor..it was a little faster! ![]() |

That cop got me in my 330i with instant-on. I was doing about 90 and was the only car on the road. Yeah, such a menace in the Mojave Desert.
I rode my GS out that way a month ago and saw the same cop with someone pulled over on my way out there. On the way back, I was doing about 90, pitch dark out and got a radar chirp in my earpiece. I slowed down and sure enough, there was a cop hidden in the media strip. Didn't get me that time.

on da way to kalif mtr spudway last week for the zona de O-cho orgy of speed festivus, i was clocked(not dar dar) by (2) CHP's and due to my far superior intellect than them, i avoided certain impending doom.
dar dar detector and keep yer eyes on the mirrors is my only recommendation. and having driven it about a gazzillion times over my 51 years. |

I think I lost the intent some where in there.... if you pay the ticket, it is held 'in suspense' until the state recieves the traffic school completion form either electronically or actually. You have a 'complete by date' issued in the traffic school instructions.
If you do not do the traffic school, the ticket goes to warrant, and the fine you paid is all for nothing. Not sure if that was what you were asking. |
