The MC-30's and the C-20 were bought in early 1960. The guy I bought them from put them in a cabinet when he bought them and had the C-20 mounted in the front of the same cabinet. I came across them in the early 80's and tried to get him to sell them for many years, he finally did. Price paid was a steal, if I were to sell them but that won't happen. He normally had numerous Ferrari's, Maserati and Lambos. He had the first 550 Maranello in the US delivered to South Dakota. OK back on track he also gave me several hundred big band and famous singer albums along with it.


Tubes just give a sound that most transistor amps can't. Warm and detailed. I have tried the Mac C-20 with my Crown DC-150 but still does not compare to using the tube amps with it. Oh and my speakers are the newest part of the system 1980 Ohm I's. Used to sell them in 1980.

interesting. Fairport soundworks is still here, now called Soundworks and the Analog store. those are the two hi-fi shops left as far as i know. Stereo shop is still here but thats more of a car-audio and home theatre/video store. They have stereo components and speakers but nothing i would consider audiophile quality...it was the place to go for Infinity speakers when that brand was better quality than it is now....though I was at one of their stores last weekend and they had the new Marrantz TT (made by Clear Audio).... which surprised me and it looked like they were building a listening room....so, perhaps they are diversifying

Rowe is an excellent camera store. Always has been, except they always sold McIntosh gear too. I have not been there in a long time and not sure if they still have McIntosh. Back in the late 80s & early 90s you would walk into that store and they would have an entire room of McIntosh stuff, all lit up, and a ton of used pieces. i remember as a teenager standing in amazement at all the green lights. couldnt afford it then and still cant. It always struck me as a camera store where the owner happened to love McIntosh so he dealt in it

Look at the construction of the amp. Circuitry is solder conductors via through hole junctions...wow serious 1930's manufacturing technology, but works...:) Those big black striped devises are resistors...wow! waxed capacitors (Pre Electrolytic)...Neat! Are there any circuit traces on the back of that phenolic board with the solder eyelets????

What does a tube amp like that burn wattage wise at idle keeping the electron tubes excited and hot?

Interesting. When I was a kid, I used to pull all the tubes out of our TVs, radios, and take them to Thrifty's Drug Store and test and replace bad ones. Doesn't seem that long ago. I did it up to the eighties IIRC.

On the amp it say 105-135 watts. Here is the other side. The reason for these picture was to determine if some upgrades have been done. The one on the other side are original Bumblebee capacitors due to the color stripes to tell what size they were. There is a guy over on the Klipsh board that has upgraded his MC-30 to some of the top rated components and says it is sweeter and more open than ever. On my list of things to do.

Clear Audio Statement turntable. This is the one I referred to above that we used at the Rocky Mountain show that 'lost'. :o Changing a record took about 2 minutes.

I can appreciated good to great engineering. But is all that REALLY necessary. That is the perfect icon that makes vinyl guys look silly!

Does it require a 100K to make a turntable acoustically dead? What do they call that stand? "The intermittent phased intercostal laminated frequency attenuator"?:confused: The linear tracking looks like it came off my Tile cutter!

I've noticed many turntable designs are using poly carbonate or (Plexiglas/lexan)
Does this have any special acoustical dampening properties or is it just for aesthetics?
