Honeymoon in Ireland?
I'm getting married in July and my fiance and I would both love to visit Ireland. We haven't booked a homeymoon yet as we have been kicking ideas around. Does anyone have any insight regarding Ireland as a honeymoon destination--or on Ireland in general?
My parents have been to Ireland and loved it so they provided me with some information. I thought I would ask the PPOT group about experiences. We are both of Irish descent(my family is from the Galway area), love history, DISlike bed and breakfasts and will have about 7 days or so. Thoughts?

I did a trip to Ireland a few years ago and really enjoyed it. We flew into Shannon then rented a car and drove around the lower coast to Waterford then up through Kilkenney and into Dublin. We covered about 850 miles in the car.
The Ring of Kerry is very nice and scenic. The town of Kinsale is wonderful and it is one place I wish we had more time, it think it would be perfect for a few days on a honeymoon. |

Kinsale. Wonderful little seaside area. The very best of Ireland.

We have friends with a home near Dingle who we have visited a few times.
I think the whole of County Dingle is pretty close to heaven. Hire a car and explore the little bays and valleys. And it being Ireland, you'll be drinking heavily—which is a good thing on your honeymoon.

Really, really nice. Don't go in the late fall, like I did the first time. Rain. Even Dublin is really cool, and the Wicklow Mountians, and the Cliffs of Moher, and Dingle, and... You can drive all the way across Ireland in a few hours. Last edited by tcar; 04-15-2009 at 03:13 PM.. |

People bowling in the road? Thanks for the suggestions. My parents said the same regarding renting a car and exploring. My father said the locals were the second nicest folks he ever met abroad(the Scots were the nicest). vash--if we go will look into the oyster festival--one of our favorite foods--we actually got engaged in Charleston SC after a night of eating at Pearlz oyster house. Pre-H20---post some details upon your return---our trip will be in late July, so I am not booking anything immeadiately.

Yes, it's not like American "go to the lanes and throw a big ball bowling" They use a small metal ball, it's more like a pub crawl. Hell everything is a pub crawl over there.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_road_bowling Yes the Irish are truly the nicest people abroad. Just don't act like a "yank". Other than almost getting mugged in Wexford, it was the trip of a lifetime for us. 10 days on the road in the prettiest place I know. Oh and every girls name is Kate. Oh...the food sucks. Stick with pub grub.
I ordered a pork dinner one day at a pub and it was BOILED BACON and of course potatoes....Blech! bring your own salt. |
