Best dates you've been on

I have a second date tomorrow night with someone I really like. Not sure what we're going to do. Might be able to make it to the Frogs exhibit (she likes frogs) at the Museum of Science.

Any good ideas for a unique and quirky date?

What are some of the best dates you've been on?

Zeke 04-17-2009 02:53 PM

A picnic comes to mind.

Noah930 04-17-2009 02:56 PM

My wife (pre-marriage) once told me to pack my bags, threw me into her car on a Friday night after work, and let me fall asleep in the passenger seat. I woke up to us pulling into a bed and breakfast in Stowe, VT. We froze our a$$es off that weekend (even the mountain was closed), but it certainly was memorable.

She also took me sailing on my birthday, once. (Uncle's sailboat in Woods Hole.)

However, kidnapping on a second date--while it might be equally memorable for you two--might not be viewed so favorably in a court of law. Blue Ginger has worked out for us, as it used to be where we'd go on anniversaries, birthdays, etc. Doesn't the MFA have monthly night time events for Boston area singles? Ice skating on the Frog Pond?

RWebb 04-17-2009 03:14 PM

call one of her gf's and ask them what would she really really like - you get bonus pts. just for asking

Shaun @ Tru6 04-17-2009 03:28 PM

Thanks guys.

A., that is quite a wife you must have! wow! Blue Ginger is a nice place, haven't been there in over 10 years.

it is going to rain tomorrow night, so no picnic Milt. One of my best date ideas in the summer is to rent a canoe here in Watertown, paddle down the Charles, have a picnic in Boston, then paddle back. Looooong day, but it pays incredible dividends. I think women like to see men work.

Randy, don't know her friends, this is a second date, but good for the future.

She gets done with a workshop (work-related) at 4.

I could give her a tour of Little Traveler World Headquarters. ;)

You have a second date with a new woman, and you want to take her to see frogs?

You get stranger by the moment.

My best date in recent memory....i was invited over to a young ladies house i had met on a dating site. I had planned to take her to dinner and a movie, etc.

She lived in a very nice suburban area and her front door was partially open with a hand written note that said "come inside". Once inside i followed a trail of rose petals to her bathroom, where i found her completely naked in a double sized bubble bath, lit only by candle light with a bottle of champagne on ice, a tin of chocolates close at hand and one of the most sexily inviting smiles on her face that i have ever seen.

Frogs he says....

Am i really the only one that this sort of stuff happens too? (perplexed)

That's for a jury to decide!

Why not drive up to Philadelphia for the weekend, hang out around Sniper's apartment and wait for the excitement and EMS to arrive?:D

Fixed it for you. ;)

Well Shaun, don't take her to the Copley Marriott,, your last date didn't turn out too well!!
LOL
What about a drive to Newburyport ??? The Black Cow is very nice and you can catch the sunset .

KarlCarrera 04-17-2009 05:02 PM

Not quirky, but... Invite her to dinner at your place, and then offer (read between the lines) to drive over and pick her up. Make her a great dinner. Low light, cocktails or wine, view, music, (suggestions from her friends), OR something you like, nice lyrics, beat or tempo, (jazz comes to mind) and candles. Make her comfortable. Have a wonderful dinner, take your time, listen to the music, talk, go for a walk......and offer to take her home. No strings attached.

Hold On

Date? What's that? Been on 1 actual date in my life, in high school. Different times I guess.

Laneco 04-17-2009 05:37 PM

Way, way, back in the day, a boyfriend took me to an autocross. DANG! That was FUN!

My husband is great for quirky dates, even after 20 years. Paintball and four-wheeling both come to mind. :p

Staying there next week. Something I need to know about that place?

Can ya'll recommend a good restaurant in the area? Went to a Atlantic Fish on Boylston and Tappeo on Newbury last time I was there. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
sorry for the hijack.

I think the aquarium and dinner would be cool.

hey Todd, to which date at the Copley Marriott are you referring?

drive to newburyport is a good idea, but it's going to rain tomorrow.

VincentVega 04-17-2009 05:59 PM

Best and worst dates have been sailing. It's warming up, get her out on the water.

450knotOffice 04-17-2009 06:09 PM

Best date I had was 22 years ago on the first date with the woman I am still married to. :). Honestly, it was an awesome, memorable date.

Dude, have you been in a hole these past 24 hours? Some young lady got murdered in the hotel. They have all sorts of security video cameras of the suspect in the hotel, and walking down Brookline Ave. Very weird to see those photos, and know that you've literally stood in the exact same place before.

madmmac 04-17-2009 06:16 PM

Take her to the Red Sox game.

Low key and you may need to bring a blanket if it's cooling off!!

Funny Noah and I both move to the west coast and we know more about what's going on in Boston than the locals do! Hey Shaun if she's still around we can double date when I'm back in May..
OR how about computer game night with Chris B and the boys ? If that doesn't make you look non geeky nothing will!!!

gassy 04-17-2009 07:31 PM

Here's a joke to woo her with while looking at the frogs.
"Hey Baby, do you know what a horny frog says?"

"Rubbit."

My wife woke me one day and told me to get dressed we were going to breakfast. After that she drove me to a small airfield where she treated me to an hour in a glider. It was better than sex.

David 04-18-2009 06:55 AM

I can tell you about some bad ones :D

My wife and my second date came over month after our first date. She called me out of the blue with Supercross tickets. I found out years later she had no desire to go to a supercross, but she wanted to invite me to something I couldn't resist.

My best date wasn't with my wife. It was dinner at a nice restaurant and a play, but it was in HS so it seemed especially romantic.

This is not a bad plan either.

Karl, you're a romantic. :)

Shaun listen to Karl, if she agrees to it you really cannot go wrong with his suggestion.

You know a lot of people hate the whole boat on the water thing. Myself included. ;)

My ultimate dream date involves a hot female cop, her cruiser, some handcuffs, and "stern on the spot punishment."

Muwahahaha

LOL, brightened up the whole morning.......just hope your local PD doesn't read Pelican (too much)

Best date I ever had was at the Toronto CN Tower spinning restaurant; took my girl for a romantic dinner and told her I loved her. She broke out crying, she was so happy. I married her a year later ;)

From the very first date I treated my wife like a Queen, but that was the best of the best.

m21sniper 04-18-2009 12:13 PM

IMO so far Karls suggestion is the clear winner for a 2nd date where the man is doing the planning. (For the ladies you cannot possibly go wrong with the story i related earlier if you are really into a guy and are ready to get funky.)

The quiet home cooked dinner and talking is a very, very, very good way to get comfortable/intimate/lucky and doesn't cost a lot of bread, so even broke guys can do it too. ;)

If the woman agrees to it at all you already know that she is highly interested in you, and trusts you to a fairly high level- so it's also a good litmus test.

Actually i hope they do...well, the female cops anyway. :)

KarlCarrera 04-18-2009 02:48 PM

Thanks Snipe

Don't know if I'm a romantic, but it sure seems to work. (At least it did 27 years ago). And your right, low budget. Let's you know if she's as interested in you, as you are in her. Find out what she likes, bust your butt to cook it well. It will also let you know if this will be a high maintenance or low maintenance relationship.

Give it a try Shaun.

There is a very funny episode of the TV show Everybody Loves Raymond where Ray's brother Robert has a new girlfriend. She seems perfect...until Ray sees her eat a fly. Nobody believes him when he tells Robert. But later Robert goes to her apartment & finds it is filled with pictures of frogs & aquariums with frogs in them everywhere -- hundreds of frogs! Robert freaks out & his girlfriend says, "You know Robert, we all come from frogs". With that, Robert made a quick exit.

Let's hope your date doesn't turn out to be a frog-lady!

Take her to the Volvo next week. Even if you/she doesnt like the water, this is something to see. Sort of like F1 on the water. There will be parties all over town and I've read Boston is putting on quite a show.

vash 04-18-2009 08:22 PM

i saw the exorcist with a group of friends met a cute, very nice girl in the group. went home and told my best friend, "i met my wife tonight".

i called her and proved that i have absolutely zero game. how i got married is a total mystery.

now some other "not so nice girls"..those were DATES! j/k. i was just practicing for the real thing.

Wickd89 04-18-2009 09:05 PM

My buddy use to own the Orange Julius in Fishermans Village, Marina del Rey back in the late 80's.
Went to the top of the light tower, wine and sunset; pretty awesome...

Best recent:
1. Father Daughter dance... by far...:)

LMAO, here it is 3;30 am and I am working but reading this stuff is just a crack up. Oops, the boss is looking over my shoulder, back to work, that was funny.

Shaun @ Tru6 04-19-2009 05:01 AM

Thanks for all the suggestions, it turned out to be a great second date, very simple and lowkey, which, surprisingly, she thanked me for at the end. She came over to my place, we went into Boston, walked around the Commons, stopped at a specialty chocolate shop for snacks, walked over to the restaurant and had a nice long dinner, came back to place.

There will be more, so hopefully I can pull from ideas here. We're definitely going to see the Frogs exhibit sometime soon.
