Spring is in the air, that must mean it is time for...
Annoying solicitors.
They bus them down to Bloomington from Chicago proper in convoys. The past two nights at dinner time, I've been hit up by young ladies trying to get me to buy "Advance Cleaner" for $7 a bottle. It will clean windows, toilets, stoves, ovens, showers, sinks...  (So will Windex for a fraction of the price.)We've had the fruit guys who sell apples, grapefruits, and oranges for a $1 apiece, minimum order 50. Pretty soon we'll have the magazine subscription people, and the church youth groups. I buy from the local ones, but not the ones bussed down from Chicago. I don't agree with these churches busing the kids for three hours one-way and pimping out them out Saturdays (and Sundays!) to sell crap no one needs. It's amazing how a question as simple as "Which church do you attend?" can turn into a near-standoff sometimes. (The local kids proudly proclaim their church, the bused-in kids like to use the vague phrase "a local church".) Then we'll have TruGreen and ADT out promising free crap to get you hooked on their services. Mixed in their off course are the guys who are just casing the neighborhoods for robberies. My wife won't let me put my "Solicitors will be shot" sticker in the window.

Wow it must be really diff in the East, nobody but the JW’s would dare knock on doors here with goods to sell!
Though I did hear about a man going door to door in CA doing free breast exams (true story)

Man sure is nice to live five miles out of town. The only disturbance is the occasional Jehovah.
A friend of my dads lives way out and has a 1/2 mile drive with a gate. He gets ppl that come try to sell him crap all the time. Some people are just retarded. |

Just answer the door buck naked, invite them in for a cup of coffee, start at the females in the group. I don't have problems with door to door folks anymore. Don't believe me, just ask my wife, it works.

When I was a kid Mom answered the door to some solicitors. She couldn't figure out why the one young girl looked like she'd seen a ghost, when she realized she had been cleaning the old double barrel that hung in the hall and still had it in her hands. The girl excused herself and her friend (who was now two counties away) and left. We had no solicitors for several years after that. Do you think they talk to each other of where to stay away from?

This is no joke, I was particularly annoyed one time by a steady stream of people trying to sell me crap. IMO the worst are the people trying to sell magazine subscriptions for 50% over the newstand price.
One guy showed up talking about trying to work his was through school or some other BS, I looked at him and smiled and said, " have you talked to the Lord today?" he almost tripped running away
