Jobs you've had...
The thread in PARF about govt assistance/welfare got me thinking about all of the jobs I've had (or things I've done to make money) and I thought it would be fun to list them and see what jobs other people have had. I've been working (or making money) almost constantly since I was in 6th grade. Post 'em up!
Me: Paper route (Indianapolis Star) Cut yards (had quite a few at one point that I cut all with a push-mower) Chinese restaurant bus boy Service Merchandise clerk/stock boy Factory worker (book manufacturing plant) Janitor Hauled furniture (United Van Lines) Fork truck driver Mechanical Engineer (TVA nuclear plant) Mechanical Engineer (McDonnell Douglas/Boeing) Mechanical Engineer (Oak Ridge National Lab)

Ditch Digger-family friends pipeline construction company when I was 16 GOD AWFUL
Shopping Mall Maintenance- we basically painted, changed light bulbs and fixed doors. Hydroseeding dude- not bad but the hours were hell (92 hours in 6 days once) Apartment Complex Punch Out-readying move out units for move in, not much fun Apartment Complex Maintenance-new property so it wasn't too bad but it had it's days Pest Control-mostly termite treatments, very hard work Network Field Tech-my first IT job working for two gay dudes out of their basement Field Support Tech-same deal but a step up without the gay basement Systems Admin-for a small company of 28 people, 26 of them were female, loved it Systems Admin-for a much larger company run by morons Contract Sys Admin-I doubled my salary leaving a FT job for a 3 month contract Sr. Systems Analyst-current, the contract worked out! I'm glad I had some crap blue collar jobs, it makes me appreciate working in AC and having a toilet to use instead of leaning on a tree. The apartment work was also eye opening, the way some people choose to live is incredible. |

+1. United Van Lines did it for me. That was the hardest job I ever had. Hauling furniture every day during summers in the heat of the southeast really drove home my need to get an engineering degree.

My dad is the hardest working man I've ever known. No one was even close. He attacks work as if he's casting out demons. I am a slacker next to him.
