Trestles To Lose Namesake Bridge
04-19-2009 8:02 AM

(San Onofre, CA) -- The world-famous Trestles surf break at San Onofre State Beach will soon lose the aging wooden railroad bridge for which it's named. The "North County Times" reports transit planners in San Diego's North County will use 12-million-dollars in federal stimulus funds to replace the 68-year-old timbers with a concrete bridge. Work is slated to start by August. The North County Transit District had already drawn up architectural plans for replacing the wooden trestles, but had no money for the job -- until now. Surfers say the bridge may change, but the place will always be Trestles.
