Put your rent a truck in park man.....

And set the effin brake.

The genius didnt set the brake and the budget truck rolled across a parking lot out a drive across the road and into our parked trailer. Didnt bend the frame or rails at all. Jumping the curb messed up the axle tho.

The really bad part? Not only did the driver not set the brake, they also clearly did not put it into PARK! Those are all automatics...

DOH!

Actually, I have rented a manual gearbox truck before (albeit from UHaul). Clutch slipped and it kept jumping out of 4th gear under power, but I digress.

I rented a manual tranny U-Haul once too, it was about 12 years ago. The truck was the oldest they had and was a '76. I don't think most of them are manuals these days.

Not saying you can't get a manual transmission now in a small rental truck at this time, but you are going to search high and low for it... The operating costs on a rental truck are lower with an automatic to due the number of incompetant manual transmission drivers out there. Alot of people right now can't drive a stick at all.

But for arguments sake, even if it was a stick, clearly he left it parked in neutral.

DOH!

I had the duesie of a Uhual a few years ago. It was 26 footer w/ a manual tranny. When you revved the motor in nuetral the speedometer began to climb and register miles.

Anyway, it was supposed to be an in-town only truck, but they somehow allowed me to move it to another lot 250 miles away. I think I was 150 miles over my limit when it was all said and done, but the place I returned it to was pretty understanding when I pointed out the aforementioned speedo issue. IIRC, he said something to the effect of "What in the world am I going to do with this turd?" when I dropped it off.

Penske is the way to go. They have nice trucks.

Sorry to hear about the trailer, that's a bummer.
