M Logo 05 BMW M3 Convertible..

I'm thinking seriously about this car for a daily driver. Its a beautiful car but it has the sequential m gear shift I'm wondering if anyone's had any experience with this setup?

My dad has it and loves it. I prefer a manual, but the smg can still be very fun. You have to drive it for awhile to get used to it. In terms of reliability, the smg seems to be slightly more prone to problems than a six-speed, but both seem to start needing work around 100K (but smg is more expensive). My dad drove his throughout most of the Chicago winter. When it was really bad, he took my sister's Xterra and left her car less.

Those are great cars. Wonderful. The gearbox is a little jerky, but they are nice drivers.

I've driven the SMG. It's kind of like a video game. Better than an auto (or Steptronic) but not as much fun as a manual. The hydraulic pump is pretty expensive, but the '05 is far enough along that there shouldn't be any issues.

i had a 330 convertible with smg...despised the smg...it has a mind of its own and i had to have the pump replaced a couple of times. go with steptronic or better with the manual or get a good warranty!

Getthe manual - the SMG sucks - unless you're willing to drive it very hard all the time.

My brother and I trade cars - he gets the to drive the mfi Targa, I get the M3.

The M3 is awesome in every way except shifting. He bought a used M3 off of the only lot in his small town. It is a great car, but the tranny sucks!!!!!!! If you can wait, get the six!

Mongo no like SMG. It's the worst of all worlds. It's not a stick shift and a very poor substitute for a stick, and it's pretty bad as an automatic.

I have had mine for about a year and a half or so, and I love the SMG.

When test driving it, drive it like a manual without a clutch, driving it like an auto definately makes it suck.
