Taking your kid into a liquor store

Anyone else feel weird about it? When I say kid, I mean like my 5 year old. It's a strange quirk I seem to have, because I've never tried to hide drinking from my kids. My son knows what beer is and that kids can't drink it. I normally have a beer with dinner or in the evening, and this weekend I'll have a houseful of friends that will all be drinking their fair share.

So I'm not shy about drinking and my kids, why do I feel weird about taking him into the liquor store with me?

Not sure why you feel that way, I have no problem with it. My 5 yo daughter likes to go to the fridge and get me a beer. Why she plays 'waitress' she asks if I would like water, milk, coffee or a beer when she takes my drink order.

Because you are concerned that you may be perceived as a low life lush?

I would not worry about it.

Now if you take him along when you go hooker and blow shopping.....

As long as these aren't daily visits to the liquor store, I think you are fine.

The Arab liquor stores around here usually have the smut stuff at little ones eye level. Seems like a no brainer to me.

My favorite is going to court for criminal law docket day and seeing defendants there with their kids. Truly a magical moment.

When I was a kid I used to love going into liquor stores with my dad. I remember there was always cool stuff to look at. Beer cans were a big thing in the 70's too. Alot of beer cans to look at in liquor stores. I turned out fine, I think.

Lots more in a LQS than booze. Buy him an ice cream.

I never went into a liquor store as a kid, but then again, my parents didn't drink at all either.

[QUOTE=onewhippedpuppy;4636495]Anyone else feel weird about it?

Not at all. I have fond memories of making regular trips to the packy w/dad for the black labels and taking a few limited supervised sips of a nice cold one. It's a good time to be open and try to teach some responsibiliy at the same time imo.

Kids don't belong in bars - at all.

But a store is just a store. Unless they sell those real little bottles behind bullet-proof glass..

I feel weird but I still do it.

One of the weirdest times for me as a child was going to the Dallas Playboy club. I was probably 9 or 10. I'm sure it scarred me for life

i remember, a few times a week standing outside of the liquor store with my dad, waiting for it to open. Sometimes, he'd take me to school later.

No, you probably shouldn't take the kid along when you're robbing liquor stores.

I probably feel weird because my parents were so anti-booze. The first time I set foot in a liquor store was when I was 16, ummm, I mean 21. At least that's what the ID said.

We have state liquor stores here in WA, so the shops are actually pretty nice. More like a wine store that happens to sell booze. No porn, tobacco, etc. I don't drink liquor, typically only wine with occasional beer, so I have no reason to go the booze shops. You can beer and wine in the grocery store.

Around here liquor stores are just that. Grocery stores/gas stations can't sell anything with more than 3.2% alcohol in KS, so no wine or liquor for them. The only reason I buy my beer at a liquor store is price and selection. The store nearest to me is actually very nice, no porn in sight.

when i was eight i became the official martini maker for my parents and their friends.
we moved to new rochelle in 1960, i was ten years old. when my parents were going to go to the liquor store in our new town i said that i should go along to make sure they got the right kind of gin.
you could not imagine the shock i got when we walked into wykagyl liquors and there, standing behind the counter was......buffalo bob smith!
