Jetta TDI wagon

So, against many things I've read here, I bought an '09 tdi Jetta wagon this past weekend. My wife commutes 90-100 miles round trip 3x/week. So far, I think it's pretty cool!! The DSG/TDI combo works well together and it avg'd 40 mpg on the first tank of fuel. On the way home, the trip computer had a sustained 42 mpg showing at 80 mph in traffic....not sure that's accurate but that's what it read. I thought the ride is pretty stiff for a car like this but it wasn't uncomfortable. I hope I don't regret my purchase.

It's one car I lust after. There have been a couple TDI Jetta and Jetta wagons that I've seen in L.A.

Heck, I even saw a BMW 335d while coming off the freeway yesterday, which is another on my short list of cars I'd like to own.

Sadly, in this city, everyone thinks the Prius is the only worthwhile fuel efficient vehicle, and that diesels equate to old school buses and big rigs.

The ad agencies for either of the four manufacturers with diesels - Mercedes, BMW, Audi and VW - should hire a big-name Hollywood actor to tout the benefits of diesel. Sales would go through the roof, as many in L.A. need Hollywood to think and make decisions for them.

VW's are great til they get miles on them.

Then they fall apart and cost a fortune to fix.
