You can die in a Prius just as easy as a Porsche.. You're not in anyway responsible to what happens to it or the buyer after you sell it. I understand your concern, but it's simply not your 'fault' if something happens. If he doesnt get yours, he get someone elses. Your child/kid? yes, your responsibility.

I'm going to have a talking-to with this guy. I don't know that he is necessarily a "crazy driver", just that he had a serious DUI situation. It had nothing to do with the car. I would never feel like I was selling an unsafe car as far as crash-protection, it's a tank filled with airbags.

If you don't sell the car to him, he may go out and buy an equally powerful Camaro, with crappy steering, crappy brakes and bald tires.

And skid out in the rain, taking out a world-renown neurosurgeon (who otherwise would have lived and saved scores of lives in his career) and his entire family (one of who would have lived and gone on to be our greatest U.S. President).

So, you will be saving countless lives by selling him the car.

(You can't predict the future).

That's funny. We actually have the pre-eminent neurosurgeon in the world here in L.A. His name is Keith Black, (same as the famous engine builder from days of yore). He's African-American, extremely famous in the medical world. (Cover of Time magazine, etc.). He has removed life-threatening brain tumors from two people I know personally and they are both 110% fine.

Just imagine if you did the right thing and didn't sell him the car, and the next guy he found did the right thing and didn't sell him the car, and the next guy, and this guy ended up with something vanilla.

Sure, he could still kill someone with it, but less likely. As a recovering addict, he's looking for another source of adrenaline. Your 911 is this guy's new drug of choice. A 1982 Buick Century is perfect for this guy.

Was selling my 3000GT.

Guy calls, wanted to buy it for his son who was to be taking his road test the following week.

I told the guy he may want to rethink it. Lotta car for a first car.

We talked for a good 30-40 minutes, kids an A student, does volunteer work, etc...

I was still hesitant. He comes by with the kid. Seemed like a solid young man so I sold them the car.

Had I not gotten a good vib I would have waited for the next buyer cause there will always be one.

It's a 10 year old 996, not a nuclear weapon.

By modern standards, it is a modestly powered sports car. It has what, 290-300 hp? That's current plain vanilla BMW 3 series, Lexus IS, etc. territory. Even a current Honda Accord has 271 hp.

I know it's kinda cool to think of our cars as so insanely powerful they should be, like Chuck Norris' fists, registered as deadly weapons, but let's get real.

Oh, I agree w/ Mr. the completely in regards to the car's accelleration. It is not crazy-fast/quick. It definitely keeps up w/ traffic but not the kind of car that gets sideways when you step on it going 30 mph. Not at all. In fact, one of the great things about this car is how over-matched the suspension and chassis are to the engine. (Sucks when it's the other way around).

Some of Porsche's greatest offerings were the turbo-chassis cars w/ NA engines. They had the highest ratio of chassis-power. (M-491 carreras, 993 C2S, etc.). My car is in that tradition w/ the H&R suspension.

The most dangerous thing about my car in the hands of an idiot is actually the handling which could inspire confidence beyond the skills of the driver. You need to be on your toes to keep up w/ the car in a twisty canyon. It has grip that can inspire false confidence. I always treat it w/ respect.

Never done the cross country trip, always wanted to, this could be a chance to do that. BTW, I'm a 50 y/o and the only pipe I hit anymore is the track pipe. Suprised we hav'nt met Paul, you active PCA NoVa?

I was planning to be, was working with some local Patuxent River folks to get DE's set up, right up to the point I was run off the road in my 964.

The next chapter is unfolding.

While Denis needs zero help with his bonafides, I can tell you that I'd jump in his car tomorrow and smile all the way to VA.

Sorry about the hi-jack Denis.....run off the road, hope the insurance is making it right with you. If you get out to NNJ or Summit point,Watkins Glenn this year look for my rig.......but that 996 would look good on that trailer though....

Looking at the front fender and bumper, the old dude wasn't very careful either !
