Selling my 996:

I've got my 996 on the "For Sale" forum and just thought that I'd post it here as well. Cash talks, PM me for my phone# if interested. Thanks.

Probably something like a diesel pickup truck.

Good luck with the sale! Stuff priced low usually goes pretty quick.

Price dropped to $14.5 w/ new Pilot Sports on hollow turbo rims and new brakes. Clutch 15k miles ago. This is the most Porsche for the $$ on the planet:

Denis took me for a ride around LA in the 996.

To paraphrase Letterman, "My, oh my".

The car is extremely well composed, flat and happy at any speed.

It made my 964 feel like yesterdays laundry.

This is a great deal.

Why? Don't be. Cars are plentiful. I've had fun with it for a couple years and now I want to sell it. I can get a stupid deal on a diesel truck right now so it's a fair trade. The truth is that I really don't have the need for a car, period. A good truck+ a bicycle and eventually a MC or scooter would be optimum.

This doesn't mean that I don't want a sports car. When the time and opportunity is right, I'll have another. Maybe real soon.

I'd love a 356 or something else really vintage and simple, otherwise it would have to be something really modern and faster than the 996. Older 911s have lost some of their shine for me after owning this car. It just beats the living crap out of them in every area except quirky-ness. It's built like an absolute tank, dependable as a Toyota truck and handles like a $200k Ferrari the way it's set-up.

I also know that it's the best value for sale right now when I see mediocre old 911Ts for $20k, (that should be $6k in a sane world), and '80s Carreras w/ high miles and skinny stock Fuchs for high teens. (WTF??). My car crushes those like a grape and probably smells a lot better as well.

Would you consider a trade? I have an e-mail from a prince that's worth millions ......
j/k
man, your car is exactly what I want, with a little $$ and some elbow grease it's be very nice, but the timing is all wrong.
I already have an SC, my daughter is going to need her first car in a few months, there's 100 reasons why I can't buy this car but the little gears in my brain are still turning, how can I pull this off?

No, I'm not getting my daugher a 996 for her first car. That's out.

I have a friend that wants this car. His name is Larry.

He'll be in touch.

If my Farmer's insurance settles out in time, I'll be in touch

Well, here's the latest: I've got a verbal commitment from a young guy I know to buy the car for my price in the next couple days. I don't want to sell it to him but I will if no one else comes along with cash sooner.

Why do I not want him to be the next owner, you may ask? I consider myself to be a pretty conscientious person and he's not the right buyer for the car. He is on the mend from a near-fatal wreck that involved DUI, (he hit some parked cars while dead-drunk), driving a Toyota Corolla or something(?) He's not a guy that should own a Porsche, period. He's sober now and getting his life together but still light-years away from being responsible enough to have a 175 mph car as a DD. (IMO).

Some Pelican please come through and buy this car so that I don't have to wrestle with this. It's plenty good enough of a car that I could sell it in good conscience to any one of you.

Well, just say it's sold and park it somewhere. You don't have to do the wrong thing. Sounds like a deal that can't be wrong, but I'm in the same boat as you. No need for extras during these times. I'm sure you don't need a high mileage Carrera with custom bumpers.

You're going to feel bad when he dies in the car that you knew you shouldn't have sold to him. Not to mention the person he kills. Will be hard to explain to St Peter.

I wouldn't go that far. It's not like I have the only fast car, (or even Porsche), for sale in L.A. An alternate way to look at it is that if someone is going to buy a sports car and crash it, they don't have to buy it from me so what difference does it make. Plus I don't believe in St. Peter.

I'd just much rather it go to the "right buyer". This guy would also not be able to appreciate it the way that one of you might. I never wanted a 996, never even drove one before this car. It's been a real eye-opener in terms of how much better Porsches have gotten as DDs and as track toys. No comparison to the old stuff, no offense intended.

My dad bought a '73 Camaro new and sold it just before my older step-brother turned 16. The guy who bought it did so for his son... who had just turned 16! He didn't see his 17th birthday. The Camaro was too fast and he was way too inexperienced!!!
