Will a magnet interfere with my radar detector?

On my bike..... The top of my tank bag rises just above the top of my windscreen and so I am thinking of mounting my Escort 8500/X50 on top of the tank bag. I was thinking of mounting a thin steel plate to the bottom of the RD and then clamping a magnet to it inside the tank bag. Will a magnet mess with the RD?

I do have an earpiece and have used it for years. But I still have to have the RD mounted for the earpiece to work.

If I remember right, the 'fuel miser' thangy worked with magnets on the fuel line...

You might be on to something here.

As far as the magnet and the RD, nah... wrong spectrums.

I used the 3M velcro stuff for mounting my V1 on my previous bike windshield. $6 at Riderwearhouse (the company that makes Aerestich stuff).

Noah, I was thinking about that too, but was worried that the heat around here would loosen up the glue on that 3M Dual Lock. Also, I don't know that a RD is as effective when behind a smoked windscreen. I think the user's manual that came with my RD said to make sure it was mounted below the tinted section of the windshield. And that's a lot lighter than the smoked windscreen on my bike.

Rick - I seem to remember hearing somewhere that the 'below the tinted strip' thing is because the tinted strips are done with some kind of metallic particles on some screens. I don't know if this true but it shouldn't be the case with a bike sreeen.

For what it's worth my X-50 mounts very high on my screen on my 996 and probably sits just on the very bottom of the tint strip and it doesn't make a scrap of difference.
