KRAP! Bad news on my doorstep...the New Camaro

So, C&D arrived here today. Writing on the new camaro: "Fourteen thousand folks have laid down earnest money to secure a new Camaro, but we hope none of them is taller than five-ten. That's because the roof has been seriously slammed."

Krap! No need for me to even go look at one...

(edit) Not sure I'd want to buy a car from a company that is a ward of the state, anyway.

I'm 6'4" and 240#s, I dont ever get excited about a vehicle until I've sat in it.

I sat in a Ferrari Spider and was VERY happy!

I have yet to sit in a Lexus that fits me properly, and I only 6'2". Evidently the vertically challenged Japanese Lexus engineers designed them for their even smaller wives.

I saw one this morning at a car show. Probably no need to fret about big guys getting into one. The car is huge. It was sitting next to an old Camero and the new one is taller, longer and wider than the old style. It looks like they took a mid sized pony car car and made it into a full sized coupe. I don't know what GM was thinking.

My buddy has a 78 Z28 Camero since new and I could never fit into it properly either.
Nice car, he really modded it out and the thing flys, but such a big car and no room for the driver?

Many years ago I went the Chevy dealer and sat in an El Camino. I asked how did I move the seat back and was told it was "back." Might have been the shortest dealer visit on record. I'm 6 foot and have always been well under 200#.

I hope the cars today can accommodate larger drivers because we as a nation have a lot of them.

You may have to stick with Porsche, Targas fit tall people.

I just checked and if you can trust the internet

_________1967____2010
length____184.6___190.4
Width_____72.3____75.5
height_____50.9____54.2

Wheelbase__108____112.3
track_______58.9___~64 (front and rear are slightly different on the new car)

weight______3175___3800

The new car is only about 5" longer, 3" wider, and 3" taller, that doesn't seem like that big a difference to me. The new car is much heavier, but that's no surprise (but it is a shame). I'm sure it's probably much faster than most of the old ones too. Hell, the new V-6 has 300hp. Back in the day, some of the V-8s didn't even have 300hp.

I know what you mean. When I see a car I like, I have to try it on to see of it fits.

More like 150hp. 1975 was a great year, 145hp 5.7l.

Just because the new car is taller does NOT mean it has more headroom. If you've noticed, newer cars have much more plush seats with all sorts of electronic adjustments and heaters and gizmos in them.... all right under your ass. Compare a new 911 seat to an early 911 or 914 seat even... sightlines have been raised and headroom is lacking because of this. I hate how high up I feel when getting in any new car. This Camaro will be no different.

I'm in Albany, New York tonight, and am scheduled to be here until Monday night.

-I rented a car and drove downtown tonight, and I was not impressed by this city.

The car: Pontiac G6.

My take: The same cheap plastic that they used on my parents '89 Bonneville, and a push-rod engine to boot. I think this motor is 60 degrees, which means it is a descendant of the 2.8 liter chevy Citation motor from 1982.

[What is it about this company? It seems like everything needs to be based upon some design from at least 3 decades ago~]

This car drives nice, but it doesn't handle well. The steering is too quick, has no feel, and the brakes? You think about braking and that is probably enough! The last car I drove with brakes like this was a Citroen Xantia with hydraulic brakes. As a Citroen..... it at least had an excuse~

They stopped buildiing the "Grand Am" and started building the G6. BOTH are terrible quality! Based upon what I see with this car, I'm not surprised that gm is in bankruptcy. The switch gear is half as good as the plastic knobs on the room air-conditioners at the hotels I stay at. It is probably true that the plastic used on model airplanes is the same as some gm parts. What the hell? They build crap like this and suddenly they are in bankruptcy court....

-Hello?

N!

A guy at work went to the dealer and looked at it. He's a car guy and has restored classic camaros. The dealer wanted $20k over sticker for the v6 version. He told the saleman to take a hike. Evidently they've already sold one to someone for that price...

The orange one at Cars & Coffee? It was big.

Because all new cars have tall cowls, the new muscle car 'tributes' look tall and narrow. In fact, the 'envelope' of the new Camaro looked a lot like the new Challenger. I'm told the higher cowls are an engineering response to side impact requirements -- or at least test results.
