I used to be a post whore, but lately..

Not sure why, but since the last months I do not post like I used to. I have a ridiculous post count. Every free moment I used to read threads and post like a maniac. Lately several days will pass without even logging in on Pelican. When I do I scroll down the list of thread titles, rarely finding anything of interest and almost never post a reply. Feels almost like I have lost interest.

Anyway, I donīt like the feeling. I used to have so much joy and social entertainment, education and passion from following you guys on Pelican. Is this a temporary sickness? Happened to anybody else?

Thanks.

Dueller 05-04-2009 08:53 AM

growing up? Getting a life?

j/k....know the feeling. Sorta like SAD (seasonal affective disorder).;)

masraum 05-04-2009 08:53 AM

I think it's temporary. I've gone through periods where I logged in and didn't see anything interesting. I'll usually check out the 911 tech forum and/or driving forums then. If that doesn't work, then I'll check out the miata forum, personal weather station forums, telescope/astronomy forum, photography forum, etc....

Jim Richards 05-04-2009 08:58 AM

I need to drive my 73E. Too many things have been in the way, lately. My priorities are obviously screwed up.

the 05-04-2009 09:09 AM

I've noticed a lot of good posters haven't been posting as much. And a lot of the boorish (and bore-ish) ones posting a lot more. PPOT definitely has been in a downward trend. IMO the splitting of PPOT/PARF, while having some upside, didn't help overall.

mike monde 05-04-2009 09:13 AM

IMO, the threads are not as interesting as in the past. Tech and OT. I dont post very often but do read intersting threads on builds or topics of interest.
Still log in to check but fewer topics of interest IMO.

TerryH 05-04-2009 09:17 AM

When I get bored, its fun to post a whopper on the religion and politics board. After being called a commie, racist, homophobic, atheist, bible thumping, left wing right wing sob, it's relaxing to come back here and be boring again. :D

It happens, it will go in phases. I've left here for months at a time before, to come back with a recharged battery.

nostatic 05-04-2009 09:44 AM

I've found this applicable on a daily basis:

"this too shall pass"

911Rob 05-04-2009 09:54 AM

Hey Livi,
Noticed you'd cut down, I just figured you were over in PARF or something; I don't bother with that section.

I'm about a month away from shutting it down for the summer; no computer at the cabin and then it usually takes me a few months to get back into it? For me it's more like a "Spring" thing, the more I drive my car, the less I spend on the computer.

I still chime in once or twice a day, but I find myself just skimming through the threads as well. Todd's probably right, but maybe a break away is a good thing?

Anyway good doctor, have a great day today!
Take your car for a rip.

Yeah, let's hope so. Better a post whore than a regular whore.

fingpilot 05-04-2009 10:02 AM

I'll stay here until I understand the 60's.

Heel n Toe 05-04-2009 10:06 AM

Markus, are you saying, "It's not you, it's me"?

(My Emphasis)

The
I see the splitting as keeping the real crap separate (PARF) and I "don't get my shoes dirty" while perusing PPOT. I'm not looking for an argument, and I am curious as to why you see it as "not helping overall".

Best,
Tom

911Rob 05-04-2009 10:41 AM

Yeah, Keep the PARF over there!
best thing *they* did

tabs 05-04-2009 11:00 AM

This Board is going downhill ....thats what everybody says at one time or another..

One might say that after awhile the Board begns to repeat itself, and one just kind of bypasses what one has already discussed adnauseum.

So one just becomes selective...

I just pick out what interests me and let the rest just slide on by.

Of course you should always read the TABDULLA...as I always have something creative to say....and Robby you should at least take a gander at what I write on the Throw up side of the Board... it does seem to have far reaching influence.

slodave 05-04-2009 11:29 AM

Admit it. Your fluffer business has really taken off!

svandamme 05-04-2009 11:52 AM

same here, i just don't have enough time for it no more...

used to live 10 minutes from work in a country i didn't like much, in a shoebox appartment
now i live in my home town, in my own house, work is a 1 hours one way drive

The only thing i'm missing, is a P-car, which is out of the question since i just bought the house and doing minor changes to it...
but i'm always thinking about the next one, most likely it will be a 914, working my way back to 911

I do try to keep up with things, after all, once a postwhore, always a postwhore..
Livi, you're just in denial about it, you'll be back to full whore status in no time.. Long and dark winters in Sweden, and you know it darn well, Fluffy.

jyl 05-04-2009 12:12 PM

Time spent on PPOT goes up and down. Life gets busy, weather gets better, fewer interesting topics, etc. Then, a few months later, it all reverses.

imcarthur 05-04-2009 01:36 PM

The creation of PARF didn't drive posters away, it was the 6 months that PRECEDED the creation of PARF.

Winter is over, so my posting output will probably slide for a few months.

Ian

OK, but only for you tabs ;)

My time spent online will go down dramatically in 4 days once I am home for the summer and outside all the time instead of spending my days and nights in class or doing homework on the computer. And I can't wait.

Studying for finals right now...being very efficient

I disagree.... prior to parf, we all came to one place and most everyone would on occasion join a heated discussion whether they claim to have enjoyed it or not. It made for a nice variety and kept things interesting and all in one place. One could go from grown men crying over a dead cat to grown men arguing politics all in one spot. Now it is one or the other so they each seem a bit boring and predictable to some I guess.

That's strange...Tim, I thought you were one of the main reasons PARF was created when you decidied to leave the forum because of all the political vitriol and personal attacks. Am I confused? Thought that was you.

FWIW, I'm glad you are still around if only for the cafe threads....;)

Rick V 05-04-2009 02:41 PM

Markus, do you just need a hug? huh?

IIRC, I had had enough of a fellow from Wisconsin. I think he ended up getting banned, but it would have been me had I continued banging heads with him. Same thing would have happened in Parf, so I can't really see a difference the split would have made.

The political discussions in Parf are not as interesting anymore as only hardened partisan people (such as myself) participate. I always found it interesting to hear the opinions of others that occasionally joined the shenanigans. It a way, I guess it gave me a better perspective of the state of this country.

PS, did you ever get that Buell back on the road?

Dueller 05-04-2009 02:55 PM

PARF has its place....I find it interesting that this forum usually has more people (usually 150-200) viewing than any other Pelican forum....even 911 tech. Whereas PARF usually only has 12-35 or so.....and those are diehard PARFanatics.

the 05-04-2009 03:01 PM

I still don't quite get why people can't simply not click on threads they aren't interested in. I guess people have the ability to not click into a Forum that is going to make them cry (i.e. PARF), but they don't have the ability to not click into a Thread that will make them cry (i.e., a political thread in OT)?

Just went back and looked at your old "I'm outta here..." thread. I was somewhat mistaken in my recall. You were fed up with a few folks and wanted to do more productive things.

Black Buell is making slow progress....got the motor back together...just haven't quite decided on which way to go with it: Minimalist cafe, track bike or sport tourer. Still leaning heavily towards cafe as originally planned, but stepson isn't around to ride with me so its kinda on the back burner.

livi 05-04-2009 04:14 PM

Thanks guys.

Yes, I believe it has to do with me and yes, maybe I just need a hug and yes, fluffing is blooming.

However, I can not decide whether my cut down comes from feeling better or worse about my present life situation. This last year I have been stressed out, working too much and struggeling to be a decent father. I have this strange emotion that I am heading for a dramatic change in my life. I suppose I ought to be in the drivers seat of my own life, but I have my doubts. Life emerges as a incomprehensible hydra with a willpower of its own. Is that fate or a religious tendency? Perhaps I have just been unavoidably detained in an unusually long stretch of 40th crisis.

This particular thread probably emanates from the tragic fact that one of my daughters friends, a six year old girl, was killed in a trafic accident this morning.

Come to think of it, lately, most of my posts have been of a non wholesome, whining caracter. Time to shape up.

Again, thanks guys.

jeffgrant 05-04-2009 05:55 PM

I find that there are an increasing number of *******-ish comments from people lately... general civility and respect is on the downswing, and it's nowhere near as fun to peruse the boards as a result.

Not sure if it's a result of the time of year, economic issues, etc., but it seems that more and more threads devolve into a couple of people bashing each other.

I don't get off on reading that type of crap, and as a result have frequented the boards less and less.

Maybe once the sun comes back out, the weather gets much better, and people start driving their cars more things will mellow out and become more civil again.

I hope so...

Markus, Maybe its just time to step away from the keyboard for a while and enjoy life without for a change. Nothing wrong with that.
For what its worth, I am sorry to hear about your daughter's friend. Heart felt feelings sent to you and your daughter on that one.
You sound like you need to come to California and enjoy some sun and relaxation on one of the many beachs here. A good book, your family, no phone, no internet, no on call worries from the office. You get the idea.
Hang in there. Give it some time. It will get better for you.

911Rob 05-04-2009 09:16 PM

very sorry to hear about your daughter's friend Livi.
Hang in there bud, we don't get to control the world, only ourselves.
Keep your head up, you're a winner and a great dad ;)
