I was not named after the show, nor do I claim to be a big fan.
Never been to a convention or own any memorabilia, DVD's, comics, costumes, coloring books, toys, etc. I liked the Old Series, but I don't speak the lines along with the episode or know them by name or number. It's been quite some time since I've even seen any form of the show... KT

Over here they are called Trekkies.
Star Trek was good for it's time but I moved on. So many others didn't. |

I think they prefer Trekker. Trekkie sounds like Groupie, and I think they'd rather be considered Groupers.

My second month at my current job, two guys on my aisle were having a heated argument. It went on for over an hour and I wasn't paying much attention. Eventually, they both show up at my cube.
"Chris, in episode 23, blah blah blah blah blah...?" (I don't remember the question, it was pretty specific.) "Episode 23 of what?" A look of horror swept over their faces. "You don't watch Star Trek!?" "I've seen some episodes. It was okay." "What about Next Generation? Deep Space Nine? Voyager?" "No, not really." "Oh.....never mind..." BTW, they called themselves Trekkies.

Sister and her husband are commercial actors in LA. Very good buzz going around about the new movie. Basically doesn't matter if your into Star Trek or not, its supposedly damn good.

He's dead Jim...
Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor, not a bricklayer... "Just before they went into warp, I beamed the whole kit and kaboodle into their engine room, where they'll be no tribble at all." -- Scotty "Mr. Spock, the women on your planet are logical. That's the only planet in the galaxy that can make that claim." -- Kirk "Shut-up, Spock! We're rescuing you!" -- McCoy "Why, thank you, captain McCoy." -- Spock "Spock, you haven't changed a bit. You're just as warm and friendly as ever." -- McCoy "Nor have you, Doctor, as your continued predilection for irrelevancy demonstrates." -- Spock "Where are we going?" -- McCoy "Where they went." -- Kirk "What if they went nowhere?" -- McCoy "Then this will be your big chance to get away from it all." -- Kirk

I like to watch Star Trek-
In 1972, my parents put their old black and white Motorola TV in my room. I remember watching Star Trek: the blue nature of the screen had me enamored. I even had my own planet: I imagined this place called "Tausin", and my plan was to move a planet out of orbit or build my own planet and have people live there. It was the early '70's, and for a 6 year old boy anything was possible. I had wonderful parents, who... while rolling their eyes [where the hell did he come from? Did you have anyone in your family like this?] still seemed a bit perplexed. I think my mom actually liked it when I was home, and late at night we watched TV together. This was 1987 or so- I was 21, and staying at my parents place for the summer. I would watch Star Trek until 0030 on the local Detroit channel, even though Detroit was 50 miles away. My mom would read her book, and occasionally make her comment. She was probably reading, but I think she was paying more attention to Star Trek. This was confirmed one night when I was watching "Beavis and Butthead" The show came on, the name of the episode was displayed, and mom looked up from her book: "Oh, this is a repeat" Listen: I fell out of my dad's Lazy-Boy chair I was laughing so hard! My mom was pissed: "Dammit! I don't think it is that funny!" I'm like...yes it is! My mom: Up until about 15 years ago, my friends were all kind of quiet...because they knew that I would have BEAT their ass if they had said it, but up to about 1991, my mom used to turn on all my friends! She's not much to look at now, but I have to say that....looking at her pictures...well mom wasn't that bad. She was actually pretty damn hot! I was an "accident" but I guess not much of one. She still sits in front of a quiet television and reads her books. N! Last edited by Normy; 05-03-2009 at 09:45 PM.. |
