Every ethnic group gets a holiday or two. There are about 25 different parades in NYC every year. If you have not noticed, there are lots of Mexicans in this country.

Whatever the origin - it is mostly being promoted by beer companies and the politically correct. What strange bedfellows!!

I agree. Celebration of all pseudo holidays that were brought to this country by lower class immigrants should be banned. Please start a Columbus Day Holiday Boycott/St. Paddy's Day Boycott web site and I will be sure to join. Any others come to mind? Mardi Gras?

We used to go to Mexico for Cinco de Mayo when it fell close to a weekend to party. a long time ago. The Mexicans didn't know what the big deal was. It has only gotten big because us gringos wanted another reason to have a few beers.

Cinco de Mayo is the same as Valentines day, St Patty's Day, etc.... It's an excuse to sell ______ in this case, Corona, Dos Equis, Tequila....

Right you are. It's not their Independence Day.

My wife was born in Mexico and they don't celebrate it. They celebrate the 20th of November.

On Cinco de Mayo everyone tries to be Mexican
On St. Patrick's day everyone tries to be Irish.

They aren't holidays and we don't have to pay for all the government workers getting the day off. Reason enough to celebrate.

it's fun for some.
