UPS is full of awesome

So I just purchased this sweet, extremely hard to find, Borla one in two out exhaust from a fellow pelican, and look at the care and attention UPS gave to it's safe, unharmed arrival:











It looks like the UPS truck drove over it....

The seller and I are filing a claim, at this point all I can really do is laugh.

Have you been "boned" by UPS? Post some pics in this thread!

How is that even possible?

Remember that Samsonite commercial with the Gorilla? Even that gorilla couldn't do that kind of damage.

How was it packaged?

I have only had one shipment ever damaged in-transit, and it was a minor repairable issue with a pretty expensive item (early 911 sport seats). The seller did a shoddy packing job and it was 100% his fault, not the shipment carrier's. Just a thought.

I had a mortgage payment get shredded by the post office sorting machine. Or course, it happened while I was overseas and I returned to find a stack of hate mail from HSBC.

I had a 993 distributor get damaged in shipping when the plug on the side got broken off. Real buzzkill.

Are you serious? I hope you took some photos of the packaging - please share some of those if you have them. Because for real, unless the packaging was similarly ruined, that just doesn't look like shipping damage. It looks like somebody sent you a pile of banged up crap. And I hear about THAT happening far more often than I hear about extreme "shipping damage" stories. How do you know your seller didn't send it to you like that?

Okay, really UPS, for sure

Okay, it's confirmed, it was UPS that shipped it.

From what I can gather, the original box was "destroyed" by UPS somewhere in California (This is most likely when the damage occurred). The box was so heavily damaged that UPS had to make a new box for the exhaust to finish the trip in. So I have this very poorly packed box that a completely destroyed exhaust was delivered in.

This really sucks as I was really looking forward to using this exhaust. Oh well, not the end of the world or anything, just kinda blows. Let's hope I can get my money back now.

I don't really, I just have his word to go on, maybe I'm too trusting . He doesn't have a large number number of posts on here, but he also doesn't have a small number of them either. I'd like to give a fellow pelican the benefit of the doubt before accusations start flying.

Looking at the tracking information, I can verify there was a problem with the package in California, but to what extent, I don't know. Whatever the problem was, it necessitated UPS repackaging it in their own box to finish the trip.

The thing looks like it was run over and dragged a distance.

Well that makes some more sense. And regardless how it happened, how disappointing! I hope they make it right for you. Let us know what happens!

It certainly does, that's what I thought as well, like maybe it got stuck under one of their trucks.

I do in fact have some pics the seller sent me that he took only an hour or two before he sent them, and the muffler looks fine.

Right now, it's totally UPS's fault, it just really sucks because I had been looking for this exact exhaust for so long, and of all the times UPS has to do this, it has to be with this. Keeping everything in life in perspective, it's not really worth my getting too upset about.

I recently sent a spoon via Fed Ex..it too got damaged. How in the world they managed to do it is beyond me?

Humm... I think I would focus on the seller If I were you. Looking at your exhaust tells allot. How could UPS:

. Perforate the tubing ????This is not easy to do...
. Abrasions are consistent with general scrapes and damage created from a low vehicle. Backing in to things creates damage that is consistent with the tip damage.
. It Has taken some high speed damage. Looks like concrete debris on it.

How could UPS have done this. It would have to be thrown from a truck and run over a few times and punctured with what.

Maybe the seller damaged it, then bought another to replace it and took a picture of the good one and sent the destroyed one too you, hoping the insurance would cover it. There are very real scumbags out there...trust me..

I'm betting the seller knows all about it.

I just don't buy it....

I recently shipped a pair of 72 heat exchangers to a fellow down South. Used an SSI box and they were well-packed. Someone at UPS opened the box, pulled out the driver's side (very rare these days), resealed the box and delivered it.

Filed a claim, waiting to hear.

If you paid with a credit card ( or Paypal with a credit card ) you can at least get your money back. The seller is obligated to ship the item in the condition in which it was bought.

Looks like the perforation happened from a spot weld getting ripped out. Looks like the muffler was subjected to an enormous amount of force.

I like to give people the benefit of a doubt and assume that they are generally honest, but that's often not true. This looks more like the result of an accident while on the car to me. The force of a 2500-3000# car or two knocking this part around is easily enough to do that sort of damage. I'd be surprised if dropping the part unpackaged out of the back of a truck going 70 and then getting run over by a semi would leave that sort of damage. Or at least, it would probably be very different.

I'm curious to see where this goes.
