I think this is a pretty slick way of doing things:

Buy one car and swap out the bodywork to run either Formula Enterprise or C Sports Racer in SCCA.

Another option would be to build yourself a Locost.

I've read that book and I think that is the way to go. Streetable and yet raceable.

I don't know. I like the idea of karts. $10K isn't that bad as with my schedule, I probably wouldn't burn through that just screwing around, having fun.

Milt - I thought they only allow karts on the little karting track just a few hundred feet south of Willow. Karting on the big track would be awesome!

Of course, yes, IMO, a spec Miata would be an interesting option too. But you can't hang it vertically like a sports coat the way one can with a kart. Saves on room, you know.

Also, no trailer. I think I can fit a kart in the back of my Mountaineer.

When I was running a full 8 race series, I was spending about $10K a year. That included 1 or 2 sets of tires a weekend (depending on brand and how close I was to the points lead), travel, entry fees, engine parts, and the occasional crash.

Be careful buying used karts, they can exceed the cost of a new one real quick.
