Nation's first face transplant patient shows face

AP - Five years ago, a shotgun blast left a ghastly hole where the middle of her face had been. Five months ago, she received a new face from a dead woman. Connie Culp stepped forward Tuesday to show off the results of the nation's first face transplant, and her new look was a far cry from the puckered, noseless sight that made children run away in horror.the complete article

I can't imagine the courage she must have to face each day, and I can imagine a lot of courage.
I hope she finds some happiness in her life.

She looks great. The pain she must have experienced. I hope here future makes up for all of her suffering. I wonder what makes a person have such a will to continue on after having gone through such an awful experience. BUT things are looking up. Those docs are artists.

Amazing. I think this is one of the more extensive transplants. Not only was the skin replaced, but most of the bone between her eyes and lower jaw as well including muscle. Simply Amazing woman. So unfortunate since before she was fairly attractive. A lot of Spirit and Will in her. I don't know that I'd be doing as well. I guess you work with what you're dealt.

What is wrong with people? Her husband shot her in the face with a shotgun? The extent of the depravity in this world scares me.

Have you ever shot a shotgun? Their discharge is devastating. Could you even do that to a dog, much less your wife? No punishment is too severe for that guy!

Yeah, I think he turned the shotgun on himself, lived and is only doing 7 years. This is if I read the article correctly this morning. I always believed in "Eye for an Eye." 7 years is a disgrace of our legal system.

i suspect she got the strength to carry on because she has children. i know my mom would. i could never endure it. this story is amazing. can you imagine having a dead person's face in place of where yours once was?
