Springfield EMP Get in .40 or 9mm?

I really like the Springfield EMP. I ordered one in 9mm, but it is on perpetual back order. However, my gun shop just got one in, but it is .40. I presently carry a CZ RAMI in .40 and like it as a carry weapon. Any reason not to get the EMP in .40?

EMP:

My CZ RAMI

A 40 S&W can usually with a barrel change be converted to .357 sig. Many with a barrel and magazine change can be converted to 9mm as well.

I'd get the 40 S&W and then go to EFK Firedragon and see if you can get a .357 sig barrel and a 9mm "conversion" barrel.

Why not the Springfield XD 45M 4"?
My buddy carries this and with the 4" grip it conceals nicely AND it has .45 knock down power. A small very tight and efficient package.

I'm ordering one

I guess that all depends on what you want to do with it. It's nice to have two firearms in the same calibre but having a 9mm is nice too for the range since the ammunition is cheaper. That's a tough decision, If they had the .40 in stock I'd probably pick that one up.

Do you mean the XD 45M? If so, I just don't like the looks of them. Great pistol, just don't like the looks.

I love .40 and carry one daily. Just picked up 500 more rounds of it last night. Around here 9mm is nearly unobtanium, but .40 grows on trees.

I am not really a fan of .40 S&W. It has recoil disproportionate to the caliber IMO. They're stoudt, but i'd rather have a 9mm or a .45. To me the .40 seems like a compromise for people that couldn't make up their mind if they wanted a 9mm or a .45....

No doubt on the recoil, but I am used to it.

Which is somewhat ironic. The reason 9mm is so rare right now is because it is popular and a lot of people are stockpiling it. Not true with .40 S&W.

So....

If you want to be able to shoot it now, get a .40 S&W.

If you fear a zombie invasion, pick up the 9mm, because there will be plenty of large stockpiles to raid.

FWIW, my SIG P239 in .40 is by far the most accurate gun I own.

I got a set of NIB .40 dies last night for $25. Once I move into my new place and get my reloading operation going, I doubt I'll ever be short on .40 again.

I picked up a Lee turret press over the weekend. That makes five reloading presses I now own. I'm finding for 9mm what I make on the progressive isn't quite "match" quality (but still good for non-competition range outings). Since I was doing the pistol league at work, I've decided I wanted to go with a heavier bullet for next year and crimp the shells.

What is wrong with you're CZ? Are you looking for a replacement or do you just have an itch to buy another spoon? Like Rick says, .40 has been in stock at a couple local Walmarts for months now while the 9mm still only lasts a day or two on their shelves when they randomly get a shipment. The Federal 9mm is about $10/box while the Federal .40 is about $15/box. Obviously as others have stated and surely you know, 9mm makes better sense for a range gun if you intend shoot alot and I doubt the shortage will last forever.

Maybe you should be looking for another similar CZ in 9mm.

I'd stick with 9mm purely for ammo cost. I really like my .40, but although it might be more available it's also more $$. When you see 9mm, stock up.

I just have the itch. Right now I have twoo .45 ACP's, 1 Walther P38 (9mm), 1 CZ RAMI (my carry .40) and a Ruger .22 Single Six. I also have plenty of ammo for all of them and can get plenty more.

It is just pretty and shiny.

heres my .002 centavos............always a caliber arguement until ya compare and include .45. and as we all KNOW a .45 tops a .40 and a 9mm for STOPPING POWER! end of subject.

hell i would get a springfield micro compact in .45 stainless, w/night sites, install hogue grips, take gun shoot the POO outta it for 200rs, take to smithy and smooth action maybe some zoomy springs(chrome silicone),lighten trigger to yer preference, titanium firing pin(took mine to nelson ford the gunsmith-world reknown). shoot another 100. then send to ROBAR for COMPLETE NP3.

dont give me any crap about recoil cuz i shoot mine all the time and thats what i carry, very easy to shoot and MY LIFE and OTHERS depend on it. i cant do ANYMORE TO IT! its as reliable as a TIMEX! it is the UBEREST OF THE UBER-UBER micro .45's on the planet.

if ya saw my pictures a week ago or so, its a skoosh bigger than my HK4 .380 so easily concealable. parts everywhere. LIFETIME WARRANTY NO QUESTIONS ASKED from springfield.!

the ONLY THING YA GOTTA WATCH...........DONT let the slide fall forward WITHOUT a round in it. very hard on action on these small .45's.

click springfield and look up weight blah blah on micro compact and ultra compact .45's.

my ONLY other carry would be an HK .45 compact with threaded barrel and night sites.

i use Np3'd chip mccormick 8-rd mags with it.

5 minute takedown and clean with bore snake and a rag because of NP3(teflon). 230gr federal hydrashocks for carry. crap surplus for break in.

I saw Chuck's NP3'ed Springfield last week. Very nice. I have the full size version, also NP3'ed, but don't carry it as much as I should.

My old man's SIG P239 is FREAKISHLY accurate. Right there with my HK P7, and that is really saying something.
