Lots of .223 around here. NO 9mm to be found. Few boxes of .45 ACP. No .22lr.

Are factories hiring extra workers to make demand? Is there an "Ammo bubble" being created? I wonder what effect it will have when it bursts.

Hopefully, low ammo prices.

If this shortage is caused by a rash of new shooters and the militarization of police departments--as I've heard, I'd hope that ammo manufacturers are adding capacity. From what I gather, most are running 3 shifts 24/7 to keep up with demand. They are taking their existing equipment as far as it will go.

Exactly. Remember when it was .223 that was in short supply and people were saying you gotta buy every .223 round you can find at any price? So now the same thing is happening to commonplace pistol calibers. Ridiculous. Just like chasing oil at $140, or California bungalows at $1MM, or NASDAQ at 5000. Proves, I suppose, that its not just financial and housing speculators who can get snowjobbed.

I wish my 30-06 ammo would arrive...

I have some machinist friends whose business for most of the last year has been making parts for ARs. While they don't really like being in the gun business, it pays well and has saved them from having to lay off employees. They realize it won't last forever, and are using extra manpower to streamline their operations in preparation for when the bubble bursts.

No shortage of .220 Swift, .223, .30-'06, .375 H&H, .458 Win Mag, 6.5 Swede, .45 Colt, .45-70, or .45-2.6 at my house...

Last single action I bought - at the height of Obamamania - I had my choice of several dozen in stock at various dealers. Never was a shortage. It all depends on what you think you need. Finding just the right 39A proved tougher than I thought it should, though...

I was at a gun show in Maumee. OH last Saturday and ammo was scare, but pistols and rifles were plentiful and reasonable. The ammo that was available was crazy expensive (.80 a round for any small caliber). No .380 ammo at all but plenty of .223, 9mm, .40 and .45 but it was all priced at .80 a round for hardball and $1 a round for hollow-point.

I did pick up 100 .303 British cases for $20 and 500 9mm 124gr lead bullets for $25. I'll use the 124gr lead bullets to reload my .357Sig

Art, I was there also from about 8:30-10:00 am Saturday. There was some .380, but not much and ranged from $30-$40 a box. I do not need anymore right now, so I did not care, but that was the ammo that I heard the most grumblings about.

I am well stocked in 9x18 Makarov, but I noticed they had some for $12/box which was nice to know.... One more reason to love my FEG PA-63 carry gun.
