two technical issues... 1) blackberry 2) internet explorer

OK, these two seemingly minor issues bugged me at first, but now they are becoming a real problem and affecting my work. I have fiddled with settings and whatnot, but I am stumped

1) On my laptop: if I am using Internet Explorer, I can not click and highlight text to copy, move or delete it. If I use Firefox, it works fine. I'd use firefox all the time, but some of the sites I am using get all $%#ed up if they're not in IE. OH, and I have the exact same problem in Microsoft Outlook, unless I am replying to or forwarding an email.. then I can click & highlight any of the text.

2) My blackberry: using the desktop manager, I am able to synchronize my emails and calender, but I can't seem to get my contacts. Something is working, because if one of my contacts call me, the name & title pop up. But I don't have the list of contacts under "address book" in my blackberry. I had a loaner blackberry the last few days, and I was OVERJOYED to find that my contact list synched up fine on it. Once I got my old one back, it was gone.

These may seem trivial, but I lost over an hour today, because I had to drive back to the office to get a $%#$ phone number that SHOULD have been on my BB. What pi$$ed me off the most was when they called me back later, their info came up on my phone, so I know *something* is synching up from my contacts
Any ideers???

Jake, I had the same problem on my work laptop right after I had Office 2007 installed. I had to restart the computer and it cleared up the problem.

As for the Blackberry, never touched one.

Thanks Chris. I had Office 2007, but went back to 2003 because I prefer the old Outlook. I had the same problem then, so I can't figure out what's causing this. Same thing when I use the laptop's touchpad, so it's not the mouse that's the problem

Vista or XP? Try going to the Internet Options, Advanced tab, Reset...

I take it this is IE7.

Vista or XP? I'm guessing Vista because I think "protected mode" is a Vista thing.

Quote:
Protected Mode can be configured in Internet Explorer's Internet Options dialog. To configure Protected Mode, click the Security tab, select a Web content zone, and then change the "Enable Protected Mode" check box. By default, Protected Mode is enabled for the Internet, Intranet, and Restricted Sites zones. To verify that Internet Explorer is running in Protected mode, look for the words "Protected Mode: On" next to the Web content zone displayed in Internet Explorer's status bar..

Also try disabling all the add-ons. If running Google desktop, close it... Close any other program that may be interacting with IE.
