I approve of the case

What is the configuration? Hard to tell relative sizes...12ax7 pre and el84 main?

As shown it is loaded with 6V6 power tubes and 6SL7 octal preamp tubes, and a 5Y3 rectifier. It will also take a GZ34 and 5881 power tubes. The whole thing is about 6x7x11"

Mmm, creamy. 6V6 is my fav "American" style power tube. I do like the chime of EL84s though.

Looks very sweet. Would be interesting to run a bass through that

I'm using a roland micro-cube, cause I'm a CSOB. If i ever get any good (don't hold your breath) I'll be interested in something like your amp.

Bass? That could be interesting, although I wouldn't try to play live with anything under 100w for bass. It puts out 20w clean/30w max with 5881s and 14w clean/22w max with 6V6s. Plenty loud enough for guitar (just right for club gigs, which is what it's mainly designed for), but just not enough oomph for bass.

Not talking about live, but rather hooking it to a single 10" cab and recording with it.

Live I use an Ashdown 500W head with tube preamp with EA or Epiphany cabs. Recording I've usually gone direct but it isn't the same as pushing air.

The other interesting thing would be to put an acoustic through that head to get a little grit.

Yeah, I'm nuts...

Are these one offs? Could you build a stereo amp in the same case?

VERY, VERY cool my friend.

...and my favorite 6V6s are an old Mazda and an MWT (Marconi Wireless Telegraph). The Mazda is the best sounding tube I've ever heard.

14W would be nice, but is still really loud.

That would work! Actually the Normal channel would probably work really well for recording bass. Must try that...

Thanks. I build them one at a time by hand in my garage (actually, my plan is to build them in runs of 10 or 25 depending on how they are received). For stereo, you can simply use two of them. Consider them monoblocks of sorts. I use two live into a stereo 4x12 or 2x12 cab and it sounds great.

Indeed, it's surprisingly loud w/ 6V6s. I designed Amplifier No. 7 to be the ideal rock amp for live club work, and it's just the right volume without needing to be attenuated.

BTW, I will offer Amplifier No. 7 with 6V6s or 5881s, with the appropriate rectifier. I'll also have an option for both sets of tubes, and an option without tubes for people who want to use their own stash of NOS or whatever they want.

Another BTW... my band will be playing tomorrow night (Saturday 5/16) at Grant & Green in North Beach (San Francisco), if anybody wants to come out and hear some cool old-school hard rock covers (zep, ac/dc, zz top, aerosmith, etc.) We go on at about 11pm til closing.

Mmmmm...a nice NOS Tung Sol 5881! Another one of my very favorites. (I have a Univalve, so I have this nice collection of tubes to swap all the time...)

2 6V6's should be ~30W.

So if that's the wattage, how 'bout the cabbage? Very nice little package there!

I was playing some BadCats the other day and while they sounded freaky good - the price was even freakier.

I am using a Class A cathode biased configuration in Amplifier No. 7. In these amps, a pair of 6V6s with a 5Y3 rectifier put out 14w clean/22w max. With 5881s and a GZ34, they put out 20w clean/30w max. In fixed bias, two 6V6s are generally good for around 25w, 5881s will do upwards of 50w. I went with cathode bias because it adds a certain sweetness to the sound, and it gives a certain "feel" to it when you play.
