That Time of the Month...

Man, I swear sometimes women make me friggin nuts!

You may know that I have an 8 month old black lab. Great dog but she will destroy anything left in her path that is not metal or tied down. Over time, our back yard has become "Bella-Proof". So, on Sunday I spend an hour outside, sweeping the deck, cleaning everything, hosing down the deck, etc. The wife calls me today and says she bathed the dog, great.

I come home and notice there is some whitish material all over the deck...hrm. I ask my wife what is all over the deck....

Her: "Oh no, I left the shampoo bottle outside."

Me: (frustrated) "Well, there goes my clean deck."

So she goes out there and hoses the deck back down. Comes back in 10 minutes later and is crying. WTF?!?!? She says she is frustrated because I made her feel stupid. She thinks I should have just known that she already felt stupid for leaving the shampoo in the path of destructo-dog and left it at that.

Are men not allowed to ever react to anything? It seems like we are expected to just take it all in, smile and move on. She is allowed to get frustrated with me when I spend too much time on the computer or forget to bathe the kids yet I can't get frustrated when she lets the dog spew shampoo all over my newly cleaned deck?

Of course it doesn't help that it's that time of the month either...

In the famous words of someone,

I feel your pain.

javadog 05-21-2009 04:05 PM

I'd suggest you start sucking up, right now, 'cause if she ever sees your post you'll be dead meat.

If you think you're having fun now, wait until she hits her 50's....

Hah, she never comes to the forum...

But I will be sure to shut down the browser completely when I leave lest the Back button bite me in the arse...

red-beard 05-21-2009 04:32 PM

You're just learning it now? Better get used to it...

Oh, and things haven't been the same since the rule of thumb died

Dueller 05-21-2009 04:34 PM

LOL...OK, at the risk of losing my Man Card, think about what happened. AShe calls you all proud that she did something you would appreciate by washing Bella. And she makes one little mistake of leaving the shampoo out and in her state of mind undoes her efforts and Kudos she received from you. The nerve of her ruining YOUR clean deck.

Don't know the nuances and inflections that occurred....but c'mon. It only took her 10 minutes to fix YOUR clean deck. It took you about 10 seconds to take away something she was trying to do for you in bathing Bella.

What if your response had been "You know, I have been meaning to wash that dog's mouth out with soap for a while. Wanna get naked and play slip and slide on the deck while I hose it down? "

DISCLAIMER: I have never read nor do I ever plan to read "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus."

Dueller,

You really summed it up. How many of us have overlooked something like that. There are a number of do-overs that I would love to . . . . do over, that fit your description to a tee!!! Wise words.

Did I mention it was that time of the month?

As for the rest of your post, I agree that this was not a big issue. I didn't even make it a big issue, I made one comment as I discovered what happened and that was it. It was a reaction. Happens all the time. The thing that frustrates me is that I didn't launch into a tirade or get into a big fight over it, I made one comment as it was happening. It's like saying "Oh ****!" when someone is about to hit you and then your wife gets after you for cursing in front of the kids. I just don't see why I can't have a simple reaction and leave it at that.

Am I never supposed to react to anything?

You poor bastard. You are dipping your toe into into the great ocean of madness where I have been treading water every day of my life.

This is why we have our Porsche "man caves". It's time for a beer, some of your favorite music and some dirty hands from tuning or rebuilding something. Come-on! Something on your 911 needs fixing!

PS: I just noticed your signature. You are in a big hole. Trust me, now is not the time to introduce the idea of restarting your Porsche collection... :(

When the alternative is the "business end of a penis", a little female irrationality doesn't sound so bad.

Go apologize and tell her the shampoo made the deck better.....then say thank you.

Problem solved, it's the game we have to play........

Nathans_Dad 05-21-2009 07:07 PM

Well, problem solved. I apologized and told her I didn't mean to be insensitive. She then apologized and said she didn't mean to be overly sensitive.

Course the bad news is it is STILL that time of the month...

HardDrive 05-21-2009 07:18 PM

I feel you pain brother.

My wife is a brilliant woman, but she just about loses her mind for about a week. She knows it too. I steer clear and try not to give her grief. Or grab her boobs.

aigel 05-21-2009 10:42 PM

Two words:

CRATE TRAINING

for the dog that is. You need to get a handle on the pup and do keep her penned up when she's unsupervised. Look up the two words above online and read about how this is done. It will really help your sanity.

Cheers,

George

Hope you didn't leave the water hose out there. I have a lab that ate everything for two years. Recently planted plants got dug up, had to move a MG TD cause I was afraid she would eat the tires off it. Go buy all the dog toys you can. The house and the deck is next.

In the words of Richard Pryor on the topic: "What? Again? Woman you're gonna bleed to death..."

During my wife's monthly ride on the cotton pony, I become the Fog from Sanburg.

So you grab them the rest of the month?
