No water?!

So i'm down in the garage working on the P-car (drivers window decided to come out of the track) Wife drives down says we have no water nada nothing.
So I check the breaker alls good check presure switch AOK .
Out to the well check voltage Yup got 220 This is not looking good.
I tell the little lady to get oldest daughter and bring your gloves.
Now mind you said pump is dangling 400 ft. down, the pipe connected to said pump (1 inch dia.) is full of water now I'm no rocket scientist but 1 inch x 400 ft. = HEAVY!
Got about 200 ft. up out, Wife and I pulling up, daughter draging the other end up into the pasture, daughter can't pull her end any further so off to get renforcements.
Finaly land the beast , run some jumpers to the pump....... nobody home.
Looks like I won't be buying any Porsche parts for a while.
Found the receipt for the old pump dated 1988 so I got 21 years out of it ,hope I'm dead when the next one turns its yoke!

Talk to some good pump people to get the right sort of replacement. It's a bit of a science. One that can pump it up so far, not too fast as to not empty the water source, the list goes on. Good luck

You're in California and you have no water. Nothing strange about that, whats the next question.

Thanks. I haven't checked yet, every one was closed by the time I got it out.
This one is 3/4 hp Myers 2 wire (3 counting the ground) have search on line and can't find the same model pump. Well let me correct that can find same hp but the model #'s are not the same. Prices? Ouch!

The pump on my well is at about 460 ft. I think the pipe is either 1" or 1 1/4". I don't see how you could have lifted that much weight by hand. My pump is a 2 hp. Gould. I don't remember the model right now. I'd be thankful you got that many years of service from it if I were you. It's probably time to upgrade to a more modern pump. By the way mine cost around $1,100 or a little more if I remember right.

Last week. New Hampshire wanted cheap labor so we sent Santa Ana, Cerritos and a city-to-be-named-later in a trade.

Today's "made in China" pumps will be lucky to last five years.

bought a used pump off craig's list for 60 bucks
but our water table is only 10 feet down here
the pump filled our 32x18 ft pool in about 12 hours

try a new starting or running cap first
can you have your old pump rewound and/or bearings replaced
that should make it good as new for a lot less $$$$

You guys are lucky! My pump is at 910 feet and sorry but am going to hire it out if it ever pukes. Pulling up 900+ feet of 4 wire cable and piping will not be fun.

Guess there is a reason why all three houses in this area share pumps and piping. If one pukes you can live with the other one until the repair guys arrive. As well thats why I have a 2000 gallon tank on the hill behind the house for storage!

Where in Vermont are you located?

I have a place in Hubbarton.. Not sure how deep the well is..

Occasionally if I have a house full of people for a few days and the water runs out..We have to wait a few hours then we get water again..Sucks to have to worry about water running out when the house is right next to a lake...

Funny thing is that my house is lakefront property. And my neighbors who are about 400; away can run their water 24/7 and not run out...

Mi casa
