Nasty little accident in front of our house.

No one hurt, a testament to Mercedes engineering and the advantage of driving a big chunk of American SUV goodness.

Asian girl with car full of friends blew a stop sign going 30-35mph. SUV was loaded to the brim with 2 familys and camping gear. Scary.

Check out the second photo. Thats the rim on the side that was not hit. Gotta wonder about those nice shiny aftermarket rims folks put on their 7000lbs SUVS. Sheered it right off.

Great pics...and good point on the big chrome wheels on SUV's...noted the street tires as well. I mean, obviously a rig not for going off pavement, thus the street tires. Then...why bother with four wheel drive?

Not exclusive to your area...I see the same thing here.

Good that nobody was hurt...(edit) Boy, is that little girl ever going to have some 'splainin' to do to her parents...

Most aftermarket rims these days are (guess what) "Made in China". Terrible metallurgy for the most part, very brittle and lots of impurities.

Stick to O.E. or a name brand aftermarket if you simply must have aftermarket rims.

That must have been a scary experience.

Take lots of photos, and sue the ***** snot out of the SUV owner. Their daughter should be put down.

Ha, ha, you funny.

The girl was driving the mercedes, not the SUV.

Isn't that Rick Lee's or nostatic's line?

In your first pic, why does there appear to be a wheel on the left rear (albeit at a funny angle and flat tire), yet in your second pic the rim has clearly shattered?

Got moved by the tow truck. Look at the car in relation to the yellow line.

I still don't understand. The second pic is obviously the earlier one, as the wheel is shattered. The first pic is the later one, as it now has an intact wheel on it...yet it looks like the tire is flat? Who puts on a flat spare?

The wheel is not intact in second pic. It is at an angle. Still standing but not intact. Might be stuck with the body sitting on it.

Alarick, I'm not sure why you think the first pic is the 'later' pic. Of course, only HardDrive knows.

But, I'm guessing in the first pic, the destroyed wheel is still on the car, and still hanging on by one or two spokes, or the hub is simply resting in the destroyed hoop of the wheel. See how the hub is not centered in the hoop? In the second pic, the wrecker dragged the SUV a bit and the wheel finally gave way. Who knows.

Whatever the case is, there's 5 truck wheels visible in the combo of pics. So the spare is "in the game", so to speak.

Maybe they didn't "bother with 4WD". The majority of Suburbans sold are 2WD.

Gogar is correct, in the first photo, it looks like the broken wheel is intact, but its not. The wheel was broken off, sticking out at about a 45 degree angle from the body, but still wedged in the wheel well.

In the second photo, the tow truck drivers had pulled it off in preparation for towing. Eventually they ended up putting it on a flat bed.

Sorry, no close ups of asian girl.

Probably about the same ratio as Silverado PUs, 2/4WD.
