Who plays soccer?

I used to play every year through elementary school, then sort of stopped at high school. Then I played La Crosse for one season in my senior year in hs, and my freshman year in college. Now I’m getting back into sports. I bought my son (4yo) a La Crosse kit: 2 attack sticks, one goalie stick and a goal, also with a helmet from the Sporting Goods store and have been having so much fun teaching him stick control and tossing the ball - even have him play with a real size and weight ball now. We also kick the soccer ball around too. We signed him up at the Y, after getting involved with him I became interested in playing with a pick up - group of guys getting together for soccer, and man, it feels great being back on the field – made me realize just how good a shape I was in elementary school. Chasing that ball down the field makes you really appreciate those guys in MLS - will this ever succeed here? Season tickets are super cheap for the Union here in Philly. Anyway, I play again this Sunday and looking forward to it. It would be great to be an influence my son into athletics.

I played for years. But I'm 50 years old now. (How can that be? I was 20 just yesterday.) I'm still very fit, but it's so easy to get hurt now.

I coach my 8-year-old daughter now. It's great fun, and those girls are pretty good players. She loves the game, so I should have many more years of soccer to look forward to.

I don't play, but as for your question of "will it succeed"?
Yes. We're not only season ticket holder for the local MLS team, but Sue is a "community partner", which is a form of sponsorship. It's bigger now than it was when they tried in the 70's, and it's gonna stay. We pull more fans than the Rockets, and can fill the stadium even when the Texans are playing down the street.

I played in an adult league for a season. There was the "competetive" league and the "recreational" league. I signed up for the recreational league and found it full of college guys who were amazingly competitive considering what league they signed up for.

Our goalie got a broken rib when he got kicked during a game. I had played goalie at one time in my years of playing and put myself in the goal for the next game. It was going well right up until one of the other team's forwards broke away. I came out of the box and slid toward him and the ball right as he decided to punch it toward the goal. I ended up with a displaced rib fracture (ie the rib cracked into two pieces then the pieces ended up stacked on top of each other instead of laying end to end). It took around three years before I fully recovered. I still think about playing, but it would have to be with old men.

Love soccer. I don't play, but would like to. Maybe I should join a league or something.

I have been playing in a adult 6v6 co-ed league on Sunday's for the last two years(http://www.calcitysports.com/). I also coach the local BU12 allstar team. Played Football, Baseball and Basketball growing up and always thought soccer was for the guys who couldn't catch. That was until I played a full game, boy was I wrong! What other game do you run around the field with no timeouts and no helmets or pads? I love the beautiful game. Great thread!
