RIP Grasshopper

One of my childhood heroes gone...

BANGKOK – Actor David Carradine, star of the 1970s TV series "Kung Fu" who also had a wide-ranging career in the movies, has been found dead in the Thai capital, Bangkok.

A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy, Michael Turner, confirmed the death of the 72-year-old actor. He says Carradine died either late Wednesday or early Thursday, but he could not provide further details out of consideration for his family.

The Web site of the newspaper The Nation cited unidentified police sources as saying Carradine was found Thursday hanged in his luxury hotel room and is believed to have committed suicide.

Carradine was a leading member of a venerable Hollywood acting family that included his father, character actor John Carradine, and brother Keith.

young grashopper got old

And apparantly hung himself in Bankok at the age of 72...
At least that's what the news here reports, David Carradine is no more.

Joeaksa 06-04-2009 06:47 AM

Just saw this on the news. Sorry to see him go and enjoyed his work.

Was wondering if there would ever be a "Kill Bill 4" but guess not now...

RIP

GothingNC 06-04-2009 06:50 AM

Same here:(

I enjoyed most of the movies he was in.

rcecale 06-04-2009 06:51 AM

It would seem Grasshopper has snatched another pebble from the hand of Master Po. Time for him to leave. :(

Stijn's thread says he hung himself.

Too bad, he was enjoying a resurgence of sorts.

onlycafe 06-04-2009 06:59 AM

rest in peace amigo. via con dios.

bivenator 06-04-2009 07:06 AM

Hung himself, what a way to go. Keep searching for truth grasshopper.

sammyg2 06-04-2009 07:07 AM

Yeah, let's legalize drugs. They don't hurt anyone.

juanbenae 06-04-2009 07:08 AM

maybe it was one of those bankok hanging wicker sex slings that just went horribly wrong? you'd think the mamasan there to assist could have cut him loose.

vash 06-04-2009 07:10 AM

i have been to bangkok twice. hanging myself never made my "must do" list.

sucky news.

Rick Lee 06-04-2009 07:11 AM

In Bangkok of all places, where a single guy can have soooo much fun. Why would anyone kill themselves there?

red-beard 06-04-2009 07:22 AM

It says he was found in the strings for controlling the curtain. Not exactly the way to commit suicide. Also, he was shooting a movie. I've never heard of an actor out on location killing themself.

Something seems fishy, and it in't that other htread!

targa911S 06-04-2009 08:06 AM

David Caradine dead?

Heard he hung himself in Bangkok.

bell 06-04-2009 08:23 AM

dd74 06-04-2009 08:32 AM

It's true. Heard on ent. news he was found in a Bangkok hotel room, hanged and half naked.

He was a hard man, but he made the mistake of spending that one night there...

craigster59 06-04-2009 08:43 AM

Auto erotic asphyxiation?

I can see you have never been to Bangkok!

It starts as you walk out of the airport terminal... and gets worse as you get to the city center.

equality72521 06-04-2009 10:07 AM

Sad. Autoerotic asphyxiation springs to mind. Nude, hanging in a closet. The fact that it was in Bankok is coincidence. ;)

dd74 06-04-2009 10:11 AM

I'd see him at comic book shows, promoting, I imagine, the Kill Bill series. If he wasn't at a booth looking miserable, he was outside, chain smoking.

creaturecat 06-04-2009 12:26 PM

Loved the guy's screen personna.

Sonic dB 06-04-2009 12:26 PM

This is shocking. The guy was 72 years old, in apparent good health for his age, a working actor in the middle of shooting a new film... a guy who has legendary status on the screen and many fans... would just hang himself like that out of the blue. Weird. Maybe it was auto-erotic-asphyxiation like Michael Hutchence or Kevin Gilbert etc.... it is easy to assume that because he was found naked, but even that would not be a complete explanation for it... very strange.

rfuerst911sc 06-04-2009 02:12 PM

Hung Fu ?

Believe that he was "different from day one" so to speak, either with or without any outside substances.

bivenator 06-04-2009 07:18 PM

So they said half naked. Does that mean he was wearing no shirt or no pants?

red-beard 06-04-2009 07:53 PM

Is a man without a shirt 1/2 naked? Or I should say, considered half naked? I don't think so.

Somehow, I think it will end up he tripped and wrapped the curtain cord around his neck.

Nah, the real question is where were his hands when he was found?

And what was hanging when he was found hanging?

The sheer mechanics of the thing are mind boggling.

targa911S 06-05-2009 07:12 AM

Slap my face and call me stupid....but I don't get it.

red-beard 06-05-2009 08:02 AM

Que the commercial:

"In Japan, the hand can be used like a knife. This, does not work on a curtain pull..."

dd74 06-05-2009 08:26 AM

Everyone's looking for a new thrill, I guess.
