What say ye about a Jag X-type?
 

So its an '02 Jag X-Type 2.5 stick shift. Red with tan guts. 70,xxx and a slight oil leak. I have no interest but my dad wants to know? Should I tell him to go fer it of to run like hell? Are there any major issues with these?

Jaguar X-Type is little more than a rebadged Ford Mondeo Mk. 3 (sold in the US as the Ford Contour). There is no Jaguar engineering or quality in it, which in itself is not a bad idea because Jaguar was going downhill in the 90s.

They had to make it 4WD because the Mondeo is front drive and they could not have a front drive Jaguar. The 2.5 powerplant is also used in the Mondeos. Now they have frond drive X-Types and even diesels!!!!!

X-Type shares nothing with the Taurus, with the possible exception of the 3.0L V6, which was heavily modified for use in the Jaguar and is not interchangable with Taurus.

Ya I had read that after I posted here. I think I have him talked out of it.

Don't ask me anything about Jags. My POS ex's BF drove one and it just kind of causes a reaction to me. I hate Jags for that stupid reason. When I see one I get involuntary thoughts having to do with C4 or other stuff like that. I am seeking help for this condition.

Be sure to get the fake Rolex that came with it originally.

If you are leaning this direction, go for the Jaguar S-Type. The 4.0 liter engine and six speed gearbox are excellent and will put a smile on your face everytime you drive it.

As for those who hate Jags, well go drive your Morris Minor or VW Beetle and enjoy life! :)

Well he really isn't in the market for a Jag. He just saw a cheap X-type and thought it looked good so he wanted to know more about them.

Wow, everyone is so harsh on the X-type.

Forget for a second that it wears the Jaguar badge. It's a relatively simple car that shares components with a common Ford.

But it's still a decent looking all-wheel-drive with a manual transmission for about $5-6K. That's cheaper than a 70K mile four cylinder 2002 Subaru! They're fantastic buys.

What's not to like? The 2.5 was used in the Contour, Cougar, etc here in the US, and it's easy to 'upgrade' to the Taurus (et al) 3.0L Duratec 24V at 200ish horsepower. The Jaguar bits can be spendy but it's easy to find used parts cheaper.

They're not bad cars used. They just didn't fit what a proper Jaguar should have been, when new.
