Hell, you are still young. Wait until you get in your 50's and try to keep up with kids your age.

Can one get a hernia riding a bicycle? Hmmm...I better be careful.

Not a big deal. I had one a couple of years ago (age 36). A left Inguinal to be specific. The surgery was quick. however when the nurse makes you get out of bed to pee before you go home, ouch! Recovery was remarkably quick. Day 1 forget about doing anything but sleeping, day 2 a little better - can walk around a little, day 3 can get outof bed and move freely, but still sore. I had my procedure on a Friday and was back to work on Monday. I am a editor so I don't have the most physically strenuous of jobs so your mileage may vary. The Norco they give you to numb the pain is incredible stuff.
Good luck and I hope you have a speedy recovery! Michael

I lived with one for 6 or 7 years before getting it fixed. Probably not the best course of action. Review your surgery choices with your doctor carefully. I got mine (left inguinal) fixed with mesh and I'm a little over 4 months post-op. Occasionally, it feels like something isn't quite right. It wouldn't surprise me if I blow it out again, although I'm being a lot more careful than I used to be. Bone up on the post-op routine, especially with what to expect. I had some bruising that left me wondering whether something had actually died and started to rot. I had no idea what a bruise could look like, so be better prepared than I was. The pain pills did doodly squat so I didn't use them. It didn't really hurt while sitting but getting into bed and back out was a religious experience, even with help.
Good luck, JR |

I had an inguinal fixed laproscopically with mesh. No big deal, I don't recall any pain at all, or even any significant discomfort. Pretty sure I was at work the next day.

Had one done while in my 30s.
Thought I was in line for a hamburger, so I ordered a double in my 40s. Meshed up both time. They never feel "right", the best you can hope for is that they don't bother you. I hear ya JR on the blinding pain getting in and out of bed. I had both sides done at one time. I think they gave me percocet for the post surgery pain, but only a couple of days worth. T-3s didn't touch the pain so I didn't use them. The surgery is a better alternative to having your guts hanging out in new and exciting ways!

Yeah the doc didn't think it was going to be anything too tough but surgery is never fun.
Mine is also on the left which seems to be the most common side for those that posted as well. Kooky. |

Not positive- but I think it might have happened either from lifting my mower up to take it to my rental property (I'm between tenants) or when I was helping MThomas58 do his engine swap. I'm leaning towards swap. As such I've contacted my attorney and we think his homeowners or he should cover my damages.
Keep that on the downlow since he doesn't know about the suit and I don't want him to have time to plan a good defense. |

Well, there were other helpers with the engine lift out of the SUV. I have two witnesses who are prepared to testify that Paul did not exert enough effort to blow a hernia! ![]() You exerted more effort blowing farts on the install trying to fumigate Steve out from under the car while reattaching the CV joints. That hernia was self induced buddy! See you in court!

I don't know what went through me that day- but it's a good thing we weren't using the MAPP torch!
