About Time

Thank God!

I saw the title and thought it would be another thread posted by the handful of vociferous whiners who seem to think every cop is out to get them.

P.S. Haven't heard from you since you took your tests a couple months back. How are things going?

Actually that was a very balanced program. He didn't say there were no bad cops, just that there aren't a lot of them proportionally.

I bet sniper doesn't make a big deal of it.

All is well Kevin. I went on the Big Bear Run with my son and had a great time. I am still waiting on a promotional list. I am now a Public Information Supervisor. I do the media interviews......

How are you doing?

David

Like the rest of the working class, just trying to make ends meet. But things being what they are I'm not going to complain. At least I have a job to go to every morning.

Nice piece. It is unfortunate that it seems the only press the police get is bad. If they are heroic and brave beyond the call of duty, very little if anything is mentioned. They have my respect.

.... narrated by the late, great, Paul Harvey. When he passed recently, the younger guys said, "Who?"

The first line summed it up PERFECTLY, and really they could have ended it there.

"The policeman, is a composite of all men really, saint and sinner alike." (slight paraphrase)

Sinners (or scumbags/liars/asshats/dirtbags) with badges are a huge g-damn problem. There are a lot of sinners/scumbags/liars/asshats/dirtbags in all walks of life, and when they're cops it's problematic in the extreme. Because of the existance of these scum, there needs to be extremely stringent oversight over police forces. That's all i've ever said.

I admire the good cop that does a fair and even handed job in one of our drug infested combat zones we call cities everybit as much as i admire the veteran of Normandy, or the veteran of Chosin, or Khe Sahn, or 73 Easting, or Fallujah.

Just as there are bad cops, equally, there are bad soldiers. Some very, or wholly incompetent. If you're an Iraqi and you run into one of these guys sweeping your neighborhood, that could be a real big problem.

When it's a bad American cop on our street, we the people are the Iraqi.

My position is perfectly reasonable.

Thanks for that! My brother retired after 25 years as a cop/detective in the Ann Arbor, MI PD yesterday afternoon. Very special day for us...

I've run into a lot of cops in my 20+ years of driving. Some were really cool, others were incredible pricks including one who made up charges among other "interesting" experiences. And I go back and forth on "what makes a bad cop?"

Is he the high school bully that extended his reign?

Is he a good guy that intimately works everyday with the worst humanity has to offer? How do you do that and stay true to your values?

I'm sure there's some of each on every squad, but those who chose the profession ultimately have my respect and I'm glad that there is a vast majority of good cops versus bad cops out there, at least in my experience.

Question for the Officers here:

Why are you allowed to be fat and generally out of shape? I see fat cops in Boston and NYC all the time. Seems like being in shape is part of the job description. How can you keep your job and be overweight and out of shape? Are there departments where you are fired if you don't meet certain baseline physical criteria?
