Paul, look into buying a second-hand Nikon D70 or something similar from a reputable outlet. They flooded the market when new and are easy to use, the memory cards are cheap and they take great photos. I bet you can buy the body with a good telephoto lense for $300

I've had my d70 for 4 years. Love it. Learning curve was 0 since I had a 6006 before that. Its fast, all the controls are where you expect them and it takes great photos. Its a little wonky with the big flash indoors but it's a great camera. Wayne can't hack a DSLR but he's an MIT grad. Lolz

Then you haven't seen my cell phone...I bought the cheapest pre paid phone when I bought one for the kitchen remodel road trip. Still has hundreds of minutes on it, sitting on a shelf right now turned off. We (Cindy's purse) carry it when on the road, in case we want to contact friends or call for help...but even when carrying, it's usually turned off.

Really, I don't mind technology...I use it all the time. But I figure it's there for MY
convenience. I don't want to become a slave to it.

For example, I just loaded 6 CD's into the Mustang's stereo. Figure I might want some tunes for our trips over the coast range, where radio reception is lousy. The Mustang also has an Ipod plug...doubt I'll ever use that. No desire for a "personal stereo"...

I'd like to see a retrofit digital back for the best film cameras (F5, F4, F3, R3, OM1, F1, etc).

Or better yet, a cassette the size of a roll of film plus leader, that contains a full frame image sensor, flash memory, and battery. Drop it in the camera, close the back, and fire away. Status indicator visible through the little window that shows the roll info, or wireless to a little remote display. The biggest technical problem I see is that an image sensor is thicker than film, even though there is the pressure plate spring thickness to work with. This would be expensive, those are very costly chips, but you could move it between cameras.

Apparently in 1999-2002 a company called Silicon Film/Imagek tried to do this. Perhaps technology just wasn't up to the task. They got as far as a 10 MP device but it had a sub-size sensor and an external unit attached to the bottom of the camera. Since then, full frame sensors have been developed, NAND flash has dropped probably 30x in price and near that in size, and batteries are much smaller and better.

remember...it was Cindy who pushed the button...framing a photo? NOT one of her talents. Never has been. She suffers from "bulls eye syndrome"...doesn't consider the entire image when taking a photo...bulls eye on whatever, and that's it.

JYL...yeah, that sounds great! Too bad it was never developed...

Gorgeous car. The wonderful thing about digital photography is that it can turn anyone into a decent photographer with minimal effort. You can see the result of your shot immediately and just keep adjusting and shooting. Film and development costs are zero.

Now that you've figured out how to shoot/download/post a picture, keep going! Let's see some more of the car.

JYL: Nikon did not want to develop a digital back. It's not in their best interest. Hasselblad has digital backs, but they cost as much as a new Targa top!

Nope - there are still numerous films in production and pretty widespread use. I suspect Tri-X will be one of the last to be discontinued due to its near cult-like following.

@vash - it is a Voigtlander R3A which is an M-mount rangefinder made in Japan by Cosina (as are the current Zeiss bodies and lenses). Very nice body for about 20% of the cost of a new Leica M7. They also make some innovative high-performance lenses like the ultra-wide 15mm shown in that pic. The digital Leica M8 is huge bucks and from what I have read, is definitely not without some naysayers.

Thanks Denis, Speeder...and all of you. Like I said, it's hardly a '72S...just a Mustang. But it's something I can have fun driving without the paranioa that accompanied driving the 911S. Looking forward to my first longish run in it.
