Is "zerk" OK for scrabble?
I grew up using the term Zerk for a grease nipple . I tried to use it in scrabble tonight and everyone went crazy. We couldn't find it in the dictionary and I can't find it actually used in any of my many car manuals.
My wife and sons beat me anyways but I would like some form of verification so they will stop bugging me about it. Steve

It is a grease fitting. A patent for the zerk fitting was granted to Oscar Zerk in January 1929. Seriously.

Could be one of those examples of a brand name morphing to a generic name, e.g Kleenex (tissue), Xerox (photocopy) or Channel-lock (slip joint pliers).

In my family (highly competitive) if it isn't in the 1982 Scrabble Dictionary, it's not allowed.

Yes. Just plugged it into Scrabble program on iPhone, accepted as a legal word.
