Name one thing you used to be able to do - plus a bonus question

Name one significant thing you used to be able to accomplish in your youth but no longer can. Try to keep it clean fellas as this is a family show.

Bonus question - Do you agree that youth is wasted on the young? Explain.

I used to be able to function very well with less than 5 hours of sleep. Now I need at least 6 hours of zzz sometimes much more or I'd have to nap in my car as napping at work is frowned upon.

Youth is indeed wasted on the young. If I knew then what I know now, I'd be farther along in every aspect of life.

I agree on the sleep.

Back in the band days I would be out until the wee hours playing a gig and at work, without being late lst days, in the morning. 5 or less hours a night average for those years.

I don't think youth is wasted on the young. I go with the saying," you are only as old as you feel".

That said, some days I feel 90. Bones creaking and crackling.

I used to be an excellent windsurfer. Funboarder actually. While I still may have the technical skills, I doubt my muscles and overall shape will still allow me to do what I did 10 years ago.

Other than playing sports all day... my youth sucked. I was able to always be first done with my tests in school and get them all right as well...that lasted up until about grade 7 when I stopped giving a fk..

lift both of my arms over my head

no, who else is going to explore all that stupid stuff we did that ultimately leads to wisdom?

Have sex with whomever I wanted even in gas station parking lots. Now I have to ask my wife's permission.

Yes

I used to be able to run 10 miles any day I wanted to.

I'm more than happy to let those damned kid do all of the running now, it holds no sway over me anymore :)

Put on socks and underwear in the morning pain free.

Didn't have to shave the edges of my ears.

BQ: Yes. And explaining it would be a waste of breath, cuz those punks ain't gonna listen anyway.

Bang 18 year old girls.

Yes, it's wasted on the young. I want to be Benjamin Button.

All of the above.

I find myself needing less sleep though.
No 18 year-olds but enough 21 and ups in the hot tub and pool to be entertaining.
Sadly, both Targa and Rooster are correct. Can't hardly get her drunk enough anymore...

I boxed for 10 years ..no way I could do that now. I still stay in shape but my Arthritis has gotten so bad now ( I'm 40 ) that it is almost more painful than its worth to me anymore.

Heel-flip.

cgarr 06-26-2009 06:54 AM

flatbutt 06-26-2009 07:04 AM

M.D. Holloway 06-26-2009 07:04 AM

20 pull-ups and 100 push-ups, now I'm lucky if I can bang out 3 pull-ups and 20 push-ups. I can't run as fast as I used to be able to. I guess it has everything to do with not really doing anything over the years.

Remember stuff. When I was in high school I was like a walking Rolodex of friend's and family's phone numbers. Now I make lists, look stuff up over and over.... very frustrating, but I've learned to adapt. I had a client start off an IM with "Remember last week..." and I just cringed. I told her "Remember" is a dirty word to me.

Physically, I've fared pretty well. While I can't bench press >300 pounds any more my only real complaint is that my knees keep me from running. My wife and I used to run 5Ks all year long and briefly train up to do at least one 10K each year. I think playing soccer every year from the time I was 5 all the way through high school did permanent damage. But once I quit running and started taking Glucosamine my knees have really been ok.

Amail 06-26-2009 07:22 AM

See. I have a very hard time reading the dates on coins now, which for some stupid reason is really frustrating to me.

BQ - I think it's phrased wrong. The problem is the young don't grok youth. "Don't it always seem as though you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone".
