Mozart was crazy as a shyt house rat. What one crazy person does compared to another is pointless. This is like an argument in a nut house.

Thanks for that insightful, well thought-out post. You are a true credit to PPOT. You should write a newspaper column.

I'm with JE on this one.
To me, the best entertainers do'nt need a flashy stage show, or a hundred dancers behind them to make up for their lack of talent. How many of these new so called pop-stars would actually be worth anything without the big production that goes along with them??

If you want to talk about Quincy Jones' genius, we might have some common ground. Popular music is a producer's medium and he is arguably the greatest ever. Still, you have to ask why he wanted to work with MJ at a time when he could work w/ anyone on earth or no one at all. (He don't need the $$ and producing Thriller was a LOT of work). How about Sinatra? He didn't write songs and didn't even dance.
If you had this conversation with any great musical artists, they'd laugh in your face when you tried to minimize MJ's gifts. (Or Elvis's or Sinatra's, which I've heard dumb schits try to do and get laughed at in their faces). I got my musicology education from the greatest ones on earth, (including conversations w/ QJ), you are all wet.

It is funny how history (no pun intended on his tory) is spun Michael's Way in a lot of cases.
Im not denying his talent.... however Quncy Jones had a ton to do with his massive hits. Biography channel has a program now about Michael...and they claim that Michael came up with the title and concept for "Thriller" and that he "paid for the video with a million dollars of his own money" but...in reality... Songwriter Rod Temperton was told to change his original title "Starlight Night" in to something better...so he went home, sat up all night brainstorming...and when he woke up after a nap, the word "Thriller" popped in to his head and he knew that was it. It was Qunicy Jones idea to bring Vincent Price in to do the rap, and Temperton wrote the rap in a taxi on the way to the session. It was also Q that wanted to bring Eddie Van Halen in to do the guitar solo on Beat It... and Eddie blew him off repeated until he finally said yes to do the session.... Regarding financing the Thriller video... Bob Pittman of MTV at the time, is quoted as saying they were approached to pay for the video, but the did not want to get in to the practice of financing videos....so what MTV did was put up the $$ to pay for the "Making of Thriller Video"...the behind the scenes thing...and that money was used to pay for the music video as well. Michaels talent was massive and can't be denied...but like all the legends, he had a huge team behind him...and much of what he was credited for by the media in actually had a lot to do, if not everything to do with other people's work. Even the moonwalk dance was created by a professional dancer for Michael who perfected it. Its all right here in this BBC documentary and interview with the creative team: http://rapidshare.com/files/235945739/r2_making_of_thriller.rar pass: vstclub.com This is not unusual as the concept of 'ghost writers' continues today in the world of pop music...where the artist gets credited as a "writer" on tracks they did nothing to little to do with other than the vocal or performance. Its a way to establish 'creditability" for the artist...so people like Katy Perry for example, come off with more weight as a young artist. Interesting how Michael's creative career was never the same once Q and he stopped working together. It was the creative team, that force...that created that awesome music....and Michael's contributions to it were amazing and he was the instrument to take it and play it to the world. |
