Tony George steps down finally
George steps down as Indy boss
Tony George has resigned from his position as head of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the IndyCar Series following a meeting of the board of directors of the Hulman-George company that owns the legendary racetrack and the championship. His role as president and CEO of Hulman & George Company will be taken by W Curtis Brighton, currently the group's executive vice president and chief legal counsel, while executive vice president and chief financial officer Jeffrey G Belskus will become president and CEO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation. George will remain on the board of directors, and will continue to run his Vision Racing team in the IndyCar Series. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76631 |

Who cares? CART's already dead.
edit: Not taking aim at your post, Paul. Just commenting that the cat's already out of the bag, at this point.

Tony didn't step down; he was told where the steps were and to get his ass down them. The Speedway is loosing people and money and his sisters and mom don't like that. He has been subsidising the IRL for many years and they said no more.

Precisely. This interfamily battle has been brewing for years, and it was only a matter of time before Anton got his marching papers from the Clabber Girls. No way he could win. I hope he can still bring F1 back. It might almost offset the irreparable damage he has done to open wheel racing in this country. Tim |

Ironically, I think Tony George was completely in the right when he went up against Bernie and Max...

He Was right against Bernie and Max. Funny how the all American IRL with American engines and drivers will next year start in Brazil, be split 50/50 road course to oval, have few American drivers, no American chassis or engines. Welcome back CART. I like the road courses better so I don't care but his own business model basically failed. How about stock block V-8s like they used to have not that long ago? I didn't think they souded that bad, never got off on the turbo cosworth sound anyway. Prefer the Corvette racing AlMS sound.

Exactly, CART was the best Racing Series before his Ego got in the way and he started the IRL. His business model failed, he drove away fans, sponsors and manufactorers and now the IndyCar Series business model is close to what CART was.
