My well water is chemically fine but doesn't taste very good. We buy bottled water....

At all my previous homes the tap tasted fine so we didn't. You guys ever imagine that some peoples water may not taste very good from the tap?

In So Cal, there is a significant portion of the population that either doesn't have enough land to put up a clothesline, or are in a neighborhood where the CC&R's would prevent one.

Maybe try installing a filter in your house? Start with a small one at the kitchen tap?

The other alternative is a water cooler. I used to have one, they are nice.

I used to live in northern NJ where the tap water was very hard and tasted awful. If I lived there again, I'd filter or use bottled in water cooler form.

Laws against clothes lines? Gimme an F'in break.

What would the Amish in my neighborhood do?

It's a room without insulation or HVAC.

Areas of our neighborhood must also have laws against clotheslines because you always see tennis shoes hanging over the electric lines:eek:

We use our cloths line quite a bit. Out in the country everybody uses a line. In town nobody uses one due to the deed restrictions.

Don't use a clothesline, but hang most of my clothes up to dry so they don't shrink.

I am also dead set against bottled water. I bought one case of water for the school year. Half of it was taken with me when I was out camping. The other bottles I just refilled with tap water all year.

In mid 1990s I sat through a NY State water conference. The quote was "19% of bottled water does not meet NYS Health Dept standards".

When the issue of enforcement was brought up the answer is there is just so much inspections the Dept can perform on bottled water. Faucet, water plant, and well drinking water was the priority.

NYC water may win contests but I wouldn't wash my car with it. The system is so over taxed that it's common to see test results with reservoir bugs. If it tastes good you're tasting something.

Different water systems have different quality. My sandbar taps from a 25,000 yr old glacier buried 1,300 below ground. You might find dinosaur piss in it?

Nassau County is a major county on Long Island fed by 25-50' wells. Old info is that 15% have been shut down due to contamination. The curve was rising. Even if the well isn't contaminated there is another in-house reason I wouldn't drink that crap..
of course it tastes fine.

We have used a clothes line for 25 years now. We fluff our clothes in the dryer with no heat after they are dry to get the lint and dog hair off them. I love seeing clothes lines, I also like calling people with no answering machs. PITA but old school:)

One of my friends distills her own drinking water, then adds minerals for taste (and nutrition I suppose). I think it's silly, but it is a harmless kind of silly.

i hang my clothing on a rod, with plastic hangers in my backyard. especially in the summer time. with a slight breeze, i honestly think mother nature is faster than my maytag. i dont hang socks or underwear, too much work suspending all the little bits. eff it.


i used to be a bottle water fool. now i just have a glass on my desk i wash and refill. i feel better now.

We are not allowed to have a clothesline by our HOA. Will never live in a HOA controlled place again.

Do not buy water either... nothing wrong with tap water IMHO...
