Clotheslines anyone?

I miss the days when we had clotheslines: and also checking out the neighbors!

Anyone still use them?

Seems like a lot of towns have laws against them now.

Wow, I went by an old farm house last week and thought the same thing. It looked like a pic from days gone by. The people were not out but they still farm the land and you could tell that by the clothes.

We don't use ours.

Maybe I'll start now that I am home and do the laundry.

We rent a house and aren't allowed to have them. It's an aesthetics thing, they claim. They don't want the neighborhood looking like...people wash their clothes I guess.

Being single I do my own laundry.

I also dry my clothes on a clothesline weather permitting.. There is nothing like naturally air dried clothes..

Though I do socks and towels in my dryer..socks feel funky line dried

It is an interesting and rational discussion to have with the people that oppose it. It is good for the environment, from my perspective not unattractive to the neighborhood and no doubt that clothes smell clean and fresh.

My other pet peeve is bottled water, WTF do people need bottled water, just turn on the faucet. This is America, doesn't everyone have potable water into their house or yard. How many plastic bottles do we waste every day with bottling water, sorry for the rant.

Two excellent examples of how we waste.

Clothlines for America! Screw the homeowner's assn.

I understand your situation but these people are crazy, we are pissing away millions of $$ just so we can have a neighborhood that looks like "Oz".

That's not reality these days, people need to save every way possible.

My A#1 pet peeve!! I usually go on daily rampages about it! Probably the biggest waste of a petroleum product ever. Plus the fact that you are paying more for tap water than you do for gasoline..

DONT GET ME STARTED!!!!!

I want people to know I'm not dumb enough to buy bottled water; I use an old plastic Coke bottle if I'm carrying hydration with me somewhere.

Re: clotheslines... I love seeing them, but we don't have one up at the moment. And I will never, never live somewhere that has a HOA that won't allow it.

But you have that pure, untouched mountain spring water up there!

Every time I go up to Stokes, I fill up a bunch of bottles at the spring there.

I buy bottled water sometimes...like when I go to a NASCAR race. I can't be drinking beer all day and sometimes need to hydrate a little, so we buy a package of bottled water and throw it in the cooler.

In this circumstance there is no tap and it avoids the problems with having and securing a communal supply of water at an event where we must leave it unattended and a lot of people are drinking...

If you don't have clothes out on the line in Japan you are looked down upon.
Certainly is more economical.

We dry almost everything on the line. Before you get too excited, I couldn't care less about the enviro side of it....driers simply shrink clothes and cause premature wear/fading.

I toss em in the drier for 5 minutes to get the wrinkles out then toss em on the line. I even have a line in my three season so if it's raining I'm still good to go. In the winter I have a "clothes tree" that they hang on inside.

socks, towels, undies, etc.. still get the machine dry.

+1 my pilot friend! Makes me want to puke looking at all the grown adults carrying water bottles everywhere with them like they are baby bottles. WTF? As a matter of fact, you are spot on with respect to plastic water bottles being wasteful. As a matter of fact, most of the rigid container industry suffers from poor sustainability. I work in the flexible packaging industry and we have been spreading out better sustainability (in replacing rigid packaging) model for years.

+1,000 - I live where we some the best water in the country. I see these people coming out of Costco, loading 10 cases of bottled water into their gas-guzzling SUV's. I just shake my head......
