Fellow cheapskates - anyone else clip coupons?

I really don't consider it being cheap. I only use coupons if the savings are substantial. For example, dry cleaning 3 suit jackets for the price of 2. That's a 33% off coupon or $25 discount. I used those coupons until I got tired of forking over $50 every three months. I use a commercial quality clothes steamer/dry cleaner now for the jackets. I still use the every fifth pair of slacks free dry cleaning coupon though.

My favorite? 0% credit cards that allows balance transfers. Not a coupon but saves me loads of bucks! Any other money saving ideas? Don't say don't spend because that ain't realistic.

I turn my underwear inside out. No one's gonna see them, anyway. Lets me go twice as long between washes.

Noah, just go commando and you'll save even more. Just watch the zipper or you'll incur a copay for the resulting visit to the ER.

Dry Cleaning? What's that? Forever in blue jeans & washable clothing. Also, don't know the interest rates on my credit cards, because I pay in full every month. It's having no annual or "service fees" that matters most to me.

+1

Live way below your means, and you don't think about 'your means'.

My 0% credit card also has no annual fee. It's like purchasing in cash.

Agreed. Always live within your means. I use a cheap credit card AND I buy stuff I can afford to pay cash up front, just in case. My other CC is an Amex which I have to pay off every month.

Oh yeah, $5 foot long Subway sandwiches for lunch. Love that oven roasted chicken on wheat.

I definitely do the 0% balance transfer thing. Interest is for suckers.

Clipping coupons is rarely worth my time. For virtually all things, I get better deals going online than I would by wasting my time with such things. There are a few exceptions, but in general I shop online and get pretty good deals for most things.

If I can buy something second-hand (cars, car parts, computer stuff, electronics, etc.) I do. Saves a ton. Depreciation is for bigger suckers than interest is.

Another BIG way to save is to DIY for everything you can. I don't think I've spent a dollar to a mechanic in 10+ years. I prefer to fix my own stuff anyway.

Another thing is that - as a general rule - if someone markets to ME, I don't buy their goods or use their services. I prefer to seek out and find the people I want to do business with. Marketing and advertising are (to me) big turn-offs and I typically don't reward them. Deliberately. And I get better deals as a result (research and word-of-mouth reference counts for a lot more than slick, self-promotional marketing brochures).

Pretty much +1 on everything here, except for the coupons. Since I now live alone and have to buy my own groceries, a few minutes spent with the Sunday newspaper ads and I can save a lot of money on the food I buy every week. Grocery stores use a lot of loss leaders to get us in there. Cheap salad bags, cheese, milk, eggs, -

If I wasn't so bloody busy all the time I probably WOULD clip the coupons for groceries. I just don't have the time to make it worthwhile though. We do pretty well with the groceries anyway - lots of pastas, produce stuff, etc. Yeah we could probably save $3-$5 a week or so, but for now it's just not worth the hassle. I just buy the 6-pack instead of the 12-pack.

+1. Been commando for a long time.

Clip coupons all the time. Did it last night for Harbor Freight but also do it at the grocery store. Why not?
