Gave my notice today at work...starting auto repair biz

So I just gave my notice to my employer that I will be leaving at the end of July. I'm starting an auto & marine repair shop in Dartmouth MA. I'm currently a mechanical engineer for a large chemical company and my time here has been great. But I always wanted to have my own repair shop, the wife and I decided this was the time. I'm 28 she's 27 been married just under four years, plan on having kids soon.

My father owned a repair shop in New Bedford MA for thirty years so I grew up in the industry. Can't wait to get started but there is a lot of work I still need to get done. We have two rental properties here in CT that we will keep. I just have to rent out the apartment we are living in now. We will be renting a small apartment near the new shop for the time being.

If any pelicans are in south coast MA please feel free to stop by!!

Have plenty of family back that way. Will be back in August for a wedding (and the way things are looking in CA, I might be moving back there permanently before too long!) Always up for meeting Pelicans for a frosty one if you're around.

Best of luck with the shop! If there's one thing I remember about living in New England, there will NEVER be any shortage of work for car repair places. Those weather and environmental conditions are murder on mechanical devices (like automobiles).

Cool. Good luck and best wishes on making such a move. My long term plan is to open my own shop as well.

Good luck. Nothing like being your own boss. Some good and some bad but you are in charge.

I used to be an auto tech. I hated it.

Absolutely hated it.

Good luck on the new shingle, the start up cost of a shop it just too intimidating for me.

A lot of people hate working on cars, even more hate working on them for someone else. I could not be a mechanic working for someone else, but it a whole different game when you own the business.

Congratulations and best of luck in your new business.

Not familiar with MA geography. Will you be in competition with the Tappet Brothers ??
