Public Enemies
No this is not about BO...this is about the new movie out.
It stayed very close to the actual events for a Hollywood movie...this is not a kids fluffed up shoot em up...Christian Slater vehicle. I give it a THUMBS UP>..Go and see... Lots of Tommy Spoons firing... gona make them real popular...as if they are not already. If ya go see the flick notice the Browning Model 1918's...BAR's They were a favorite of Clyde Barrow...he would shorten the barrel and it would provide lots of 30/06 automatic weapon firepower. They also made a boobooo with one of the 1911 45 Autos that Dillenger had...it had a matt finish on the top of the slide...which makes it a post WW2 finish... These guys were hard cases, some of whom were just vicious killers...and the Texas and Okalhoma law men were every bit as hard.

How was the "direction" of the film?
I have always been fond of Michael Mann since he molded my life via the Miami Vice series. Seriously, why do you think I own a Porsche and live among the palm trees?

A friend of mine owns a bar and a couple parking lots in Uptown (Chicago). During the filming he provided a lot for them to store equiptment, trailers and what not. Johnny Depp hung at his bar for a few nights, I hear he's one strange cat.

The film is a bit deadpan, but I am not sure that is a knock when depicting the 30's outlaws.
The chronlogy is wrong in the movie..Prety Boy Floyd, and Baby Face Nelson were killed after Dillenger... The movie shows Nelson being killed at Little Bohemia in WI, however he was killed months later in Barrington IL in November of 34. Purvis was not the one who shot Floyd..bu the scene is somewhat accurate.

i really liked warren oates as dillinger back on the seventies. ben johnson as purvis. better actors to watch than today's pretty boys. not much more accurate factually but still fun.

I read the 'Public Enemies' book a few years ago when it was released. Pretty fascinating stuff. Is the movie all about Dillinger? Does the Alvin Karpis character play any kind of significant role in the movie?

I saw the movie yesterday with my 21 year old daughter. We both enjoyed it. I thought Depp did a great job with his role. Those guys were hardcore. The gunshots shook the theatre which, if anyone has had a gun fired in their presence, inside, knows it will rattle you.
Good movie, Highly recommend.

Just saw it, fantastic IMO. I may be biased since I'd see a dog food commercial if Michael Mann shot it but both of my friends I went with and I all loved it. And they are pretty tough critics. The casting was superb, Johnny Depp was just perfect.
Highly recommended.
